As they say: “wokeness leads to brokeness.” In a move to appease Black Lives Matter, LEGO is removing all play sets with police officers form their toy line. Alienating most of the country to kiss the asses of terrorists seems like a terrible idea but presumably they think that the thugs destroying cities across America will make up for the lost customers. This model might work if looting counted as sales but it doesn’t.
LEGO dropped this tweet:
— LEGO (@LEGO_Group) June 3, 2020
Which dovetailed nicely with this report from The Toy Book:
The tragic death of George Floyd while being restrained by police in Minneapolis sparked major protests all over the country, and today we’re seeing the first impact in the toy department.
The Toy Book has received a copy of an email sent to affiliate marketers by Rakuten Linkshare on behalf of the LEGO Group. The email requests removal of product listings and features for more than 30 LEGO building sets, Minifigures, and accessories that include representation of police officers, firefighters, criminals, emergency vehicles, and buildings. Sets include the LEGO City Police Station, Fire Station, Police Dog Unit, Patrol Car, Fire Plane, Mobile Command Center, Police Highway Arrest, and many more. Even the LEGO City Donut Shop Opening set — which includes Police Officer “Duke DeTain” and “Crook” Minifigures — roleplay items including a Police Handcuffs & Badge Set, and the adult builder LEGO Creator version of The White House made the removal list.
Damn. They got rid of the White House too? Even orange LEGO man bad.
I can’t say I agree with getting rid of the police officers, but why ditch the firefighters and first responders too? Does BLM hate EMTs and rescue workers as well?
The Toy Book reached out to LEGO for a statement and got one that made things even more confusing:
“We requested that our affiliate partners refrain from posting promotional LEGO content as part of our decision to respect #BlackOutTuesday and pause posting content on our social media channels in response to the tragic events in the US. We regret any misunderstanding and will ensure that we are clearer about our intentions in the future,” said LEGO.
#BlackOutTuesday was a stupid thing on Instagram earlier this week where woke folk agreed to not share anything all day except for a black box in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.
There are more than a few problem with LEGO’s bullshit explanation. First, nowhere do they say that all of the police and first responder passers are once again for sale. Next, nowhere in the e-mail they sent to affiliates does it say this was a temporary thing or that it was related to #BlackOutTesday.
The e-mail simply read: “In light of recent events, LEGO has requested the below products be removed from sites and any marketing ASAP.”
On top of which, #BlackOutTuesday was on Tuesday June 2 and this e-mail went out on Tuesday June 2 at 12:04pm. If LEGO was truly doing this for #BlackOutTuesday only, wouldn’t they have sent the e-mail before half the day was already gone? Also, wouldn’t they have mentioned the occasion as well as the temporariness of the order?
And again, LEGO hasn’t told affiliates they can put the cop play sets back up, so there’s that.
The only thing that isn’t confusing in all of this is that LEGO is saying loud and clear that they don’t want white people, Trump supporters, or anyone who appreciates police and first responders to buy their toys. I’m not sure who LEGO thinks buys their stuff but I can assure them it is scumbag criminals. They’ll find out soon enough.
