I have a science-based theory that people who look like assholes are in fact assholes. Speaking of which, actor Ben Affleck says he is very uncomfortable that he once owned a gun and used it responsibly at the shooting range. The reason for this, he says, is because there has been so much tragedy involving young people and guns. Apologize for Gigli, not responsible gun ownership.
There’s a new book out about the making of the 1993 comedy, Dazed and Confused. In one of his first roles, Affleck played asshole Fred O’Bannion, which was perfect for him since he didn’t have to act, just be himself. In recalling his time on the set of the film, shot in Austin, Texas, Affleck revealed himself to not only be an asshole, but kind of a bitch.
Apparently much of the cast of this stoner comedy got stoned a lot, but not Affleck:
“I had a bad experience with marijuana at 15. I had a dissociative panic attack. So I only smoked weed if everyone else was smoking and I had to sort of Bill Clinton it and fake it. I didn’t really like marijuana,” said Affleck.
At least he’s associating Bill Clinton with being full of shit, which is huge for a Hollywood liberal democratic party activist like Affleck. Now if he could only put Bill Clinton together with rape, he’d be onto something.
Affleck was also an early adopter of Karenism, as he was personally offended by stuff that wasn’t any his business. He complained that actors were getting drunk during the shooting:
“I wasn’t a very heavy drinker then. I became an alcoholic much, much later and I’m in recovery now, so that was a whole different time. I was a little nervous, like should we be drinking before we’re working tomorrow? Some people were actually drinking and stoned at work,” Affleck said.
I bet he snitched out his fellow actors. He seems like that type.
The biggest problem, according to Affleck however was the freedom he enjoyed while filming in Texas:
“Texas had extremely lax gun laws and most of us came from states where it was next to impossible to buy guns,. Part of the newfound freedom being down there was a bunch of us bought guns and went shooting at ranges on weekends, which seemed fun and innocent at the time, but given the subsequent tragedies with young people and guns, it makes me uncomfortable to remember,” said Affleck.
Only an asshole would feel uncomfortable that he once legally owed a gun and used it is a responsible manner. I guess a dick would feel this way too.
Also, what the hell is he talking about with that “subsequent tragedies” reason for hating guns? He was filming a movie in Austin, TX, the site of Charles Whitman’s University of Texas sniper massacre, in which he killed 13 people, wounding 31 others.
To recap: Ben Affleck smoked pot but doesn’t like other people doing it. He is a raging alcoholic but looks down on others who drink. He owned a gun but doesn’t think anyone else should. The science is real: people who look like assholes are assholes.
