Barack Obama may have protected status with the old-guard democrats, but to the young radical wing of the party, he’s just some old dude who is wrong about everything. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and her “Squad” of progressive lunatics are pissed at the former president because he called the “Defund the Police” movement a slogan that turns people off. Just 4 years ago, AOC and the Loon Squad would be branded racists for questioning Obama and now they are courageous voices of change. Now that’s what I call progress.
Following the ass-kicking the House democrats took in the 2020 election, some members blamed the party’s embrace of socialism and stupid shit like defunding the police. Weirdly enough, Obama, who hates him some cops, agreed.
“If you believe, as I do, that we should be able to reform the criminal justice system so that it’s not biased and treats everybody fairly, I guess you can use a snappy slogan like ‘Defund The Police,’ but, you know, you lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done,” Obama said in an interview.
That was too much for the Loon Squad, so they went off on Obama. Here’s AOC cackling:
What if activists aren’t PR firms for politicians & their demands are bc police budgets are exploding, community resources are shrinking to bankroll it, & ppl brought this up for ages but it wasn’t until they said “defund” that comfortable people started paying attn to brutality
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) December 2, 2020
The thing that critics of activists don’t get is that they tried playing the “polite language” policy game and all it did was make them easier to ignore.
It wasn’t until they made folks uncomfortable that there was traction to do ANYTHING even if it wasn’t their full demands.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) December 2, 2020
The whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable.
Activists take that discomfort w/ the status quo & advocate for concrete policy changes. Popular support often starts small & grows.
To folks who complain protest demands make others uncomfortable… that’s the point.

And Ilhan Omar waged jihad on Obama:
We lose people in the hands of police. It’s not a slogan but a policy demand. And centering the demand for equitable investments and budgets for communities across the country gets us progress and safety. https://t.co/Vu6inw4ms7

Plus the black skinhead was pissed:
The murders of generations of unarmed Black folks by police have been horrific. Lives are at stake daily so I’m out of patience with critiques of the language of activists.
Whatever a grieving family says is their truth.
And I’ll never stop fighting for their justice & healing.

And finally, it looks like the Squad may have kicked out Rashida Tlaib and replaced her with incoming freshman Cori Bush:
With all due respect, Mr. President—let’s talk about losing people. We lost Michael Brown Jr. We lost Breonna Taylor. We’re losing our loved ones to police violence.
It’s not a slogan. It’s a mandate for keeping our people alive. Defund the police. https://t.co/Wsxp1Y1bBi
— Cori Bush (@CoriBush) December 2, 2020
We first met Cori Bush last October when she spearheaded the “Defund the Pentagon” movement. She will make a nice addition to the Loon Squad with that kind of lunacy.
The dumbest thing about this is that Obama isn’t against defunding the police, he’s just saying you can’t say it out loud if you want to achieve it because it freaks people out. Relax ladies, Obama is totally on your side with getting rid of cops.
