Medical experts have told us from the beginning of the pandemic that the coronavirus is racist because it somehow mostly attacks black people. Now that a vaccine is available, these same experts are telling us that white people shouldn’t get it and die because it will “level the playing field.” This is like affirmative action with a bodycount.
With the COVID-19 vaccine now being distributed, the CDC is tasked with deciding who should get it first. The New York Times assembled a team of medical experts to weigh in on it and apparently white folks should be last in line.
Harald Schmidt, an expert in ethics and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania, said that it is reasonable to put essential workers ahead of older adults, given their risks, and that they are disproportionately minorities. “Older populations are whiter, ” Dr. Schmidt said. “Society is structured in a way that enables them to live longer. Instead of giving additional health benefits to those who already had more of them, we can start to level the playing field a bit.”
So an ethics expert says let older white people die to make things more equitable? I suppose that’s “liberal ethics” but real ethics, it ain’t.
Apparently the NYT could only find liberal experts on these matters, because here’s another one saying “screw whitey.”
Marc Lipsitch, an infectious-disease epidemiologist at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, argued that teachers should not be included as essential workers, if a central goal of the committee is to reduce health inequities.
“Teachers have middle-class salaries, are very often white, and they have college degrees,” he said. “Of course they should be treated better, but they are not among the most mistreated of workers.”
Someone who worked hard, went to college to become a teacher, only to end up in a thankless job with low pay is way more mistreated than someone completely devoid of ambition who makes $15 an hour to bag groceries. But hey, teachers are mostly white, so f*ck ’em.
Luckily the NYT did find someone who thinks white teachers should get the COVID-19 vaccine but only because if they don’t, it might ruin black people’s day:
Elise Gould, a senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, disagreed. Teachers not only ensure that children don’t fall further behind in their education, she said, but are also critical to the work force at large.
“When you talk about disproportionate impact and you’re concerned about people getting back into the labor force, many are mothers, and they will have a harder time if their children don’t have a reliable place to go,” she said. “And if you think generally about people who have jobs where they can’t telework, they are disproportionately Black and brown. They’ll have more of a challenge when child care is an issue.”
We may have stumbled upon a white privilege carve-out to make it so white people can get the vaccine. Since black and brown people rely on the tax revenue generated by white people, if all the white people die, minorities will be shit out of luck. Even a parasite doesn’t want the host to die.
Leave it to The NYT to assemble a panel of experts who think the racist affirmative action policies should be applied to COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Before, affirmative action just meant that a hardworking white kid would get bumped from college acceptance in favor of a less qualified minority, but this means white people are going to die because guilty white liberals want to undo the injustice of 250 years of democratic party racism.
