It’s Super Bowl weekend and a team with an Indian name is playing so that means it time for the liberal media to push a fringe-element of Native Americans who are outraged. Some Native American group is demanding that the Kansas City Chiefs change their name because it’s cultural appropriation and racism. The thing is, “chief” isn’t even an Indian word so this takes on some extra-stupidity.
The Hill reports:
On eve of Super Bowl, Native Americans boo the Kansas City Chiefs
The professional sports league is once again under scrutiny for its mascot and team name choice.
Ahead of Sunday’s 2021 NFL Super Bowl game, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
While NFL fans are awaiting the finale to a challenging year for professional football, Native American activists are aiming to bring attention to what they say is an inappropriate use of “Chiefs” as the football team’s mascot, when it has a strong legacy in Native American culture.
And while The Hill makes it seem like every Native American is furious about the KC Chiefs, it’s just one weird little group called First Peoples Worldwide. Here is their bonkers statement:
“As teams from Tampa Bay and Kansas City converge at Raymond James Stadium for Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021, the National Football League (NFL) must align with their commitment to advance social justice and ‘end racism’ by banning racist behavior from fans including attire and face paint that demean Native people,” read the statement.
Why is “end racism” in quotes? Also, the Kansas City Chiefs have already banned fans from wearing warpaint and Indian head dresses, so maybe find something else to bitch about. Oh wait, they did:
“We further encourage the NFL, the Kansas City Team and league members to immediately end the use of all racist and culturally appropriative names and logos, and to engage in a process of reconciliation with Native leaders, tribes and organizations to address the harms caused by appropriation of Native culture in sports,” the statement read.
Racist and culturally appropriative? “Chief” isn’t even a Native American word. It’s an Old English wording dating back to 1300 and it was borrow from an Old French word that was based on a Latin word. It means: a leader or ruler of a people or clan.
It’s also a word that is most commonly used to describe someone who isn’t an Indian. Maybe you’ve heard of the Chief of Police? The Fire Department Chief? Or perhaps the Secretaries of cabinet positions being regarded as the EPA Chief, the TSA Chief, the HUD Chief, etc…?
By claiming “chief” as their own, this loony Native American fringe group is guilty of culturally appropriating European culture and according to their own rules, that’s damn racist. I demand that they stop this immediately and address the harms they are causing European culture.
As for the Chiefs “racist” logo, it’s an arrowhead. People all over the world have been using bows and arrows since before recorded history. It’s another example of racist cultural appropriation for this group to claim ownership of arrowheads.
As a Detroit Lions fan, I don’t ever get to root for my team in the Super Bowl so I usually pull for the team that will piss liberals off the most if they win. Thanks to First Peoples Worldwide I’ll be cheering on The Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Then again, liberals hate Tom Brady too so maybe I don’t actually care who wins.
