For as long as I’ve been writing on politics and culture, I’ve done at least 4 pieces a year where I question the female status of former first lady Michelle Obama. The 2021 first quarter report comes courtesy of the announcement that Michelle will be inducted into the Woman’s Hall of Fame. Was there a chromosome test like the Olympics used to do on the East German “women” athletes or are they going on the expanded definition of gender so prevalent these days?
The National Women’s Hall of Fame announced the 2021 class of inductees, which includes Michelle Obama and a bunch of people nobody has ever heard of. I checked, there ain’t a looker in the bunch.
The write up for Michelle is actually pretty funny:
Advocate, author, lawyer, and 44th First Lady of the United States—the first Black person to serve in the role—Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most influential and iconic women of the 21st century.
Michelle Obama is a lawyer in the sense that her husband is and that is to say: not at all. “Advocate” is even more bullshit that “community organizer.” The only reason why she was first lady was because she married a man who was elected president and the only reason she is an author is because she was first lady. The only real accomplishment they cite here is that she is black and, really, she didn’t have to work for that.
The NWHofF also notes:
As First Lady, she created: Let’s Move!, a program aimed at ending childhood obesity…
And then claims:
Both in and out of the White House, Michelle Obama has accomplished her initiatives and so much more—becoming an advocate for healthy families…
So she ended childhood obesity? When did that happen, because all the fat little kids in my neighborhood beg to differ.
In lieu of any actually accomplishments, the Hall of Fame is just making shit up so Michelle seems worthy of this who-gives-a-shit accolade.
And that’s the thing: To get into any of the sports halls of fame, a person has to have an impressive career. As f*cked op as the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame is, the same thing is true: an inductee needs to have done something impressive to get in. What’s the criteria for getting into the Women’s Hall of Fame? Be a woman? Because with that, Michelle Obama’s eligibility is debatable.
The Women’s Hall of Fame did mention that Michelle is, “a role model for women and young girls everywhere.”
Michelle Obama is only known because she married a man who lucked into the presidency. She used this unearned achievement to complain that racism and sexism kept her from enjoying her privileged life. The chances that women and young girls everywhere can pull off this same feat are so remote that it nullifies her ability to serve as a role model.
Barack Obama never had a real job in his life and somehow was elected President of the United States. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing. The Obamas have been given book deals, TV production deals, and won numerous awards for no particular reason. Michelle Obama getting into the Women’s Hall of Fame is just another example of the Obama’ getting handed things they neither worked for or deserved.
