“Who controls the past controls the future” – George Orwell
All successful totalitarian societies have one major tenet and that is the erasure of the past in order to swap out reality with a narrative that is conducive to the interests of the ruling regime.
The communistic cancel culture continues to build momentum in its march through American institutions including popular culture and sports. Recently Disney dropped such enduring classics as Peter Pan, Dumbo, and Swiss Family Robinson from their streaming services for children over “offensive content”, cartoon skunk Pepe Le Pew was canceled after being railroaded for promoting “rape culture” and books by the beloved Dr. Seuss have been banned.
Now the censors at NBCUniversal are combing through decades of professional wrestling footage in search of “racist” content in programs offered on the corporation’s Peacock streaming services.
The hunt was prompted over a 1990 Wrestlemania bout where Rowdy Roddy Piper painted half of his face black for a match against Bad News Brown who is an African-American.
Well, it’s about time. I know this has been a great source of concern for everyone. https://t.co/JrnACZr8r6

Via Breitbart News, “NBCUniversal Deleting ‘Racist’ Segments from WWE Matches”:
NBCUniversal is methodically deleting anything it deems “racist” or “risqué” from past WWE wrestling matches for its new Peacock streaming service.
One particular match that the NBC streaming service deleted is from the 1990s WrestleMania VI in which Rowdy Roddy Piper painted half his face black as he faced black wrestler Bad News Brown, according to wrestling site PWInsider.
A portion of Piper’s comments in a prefight interview was also excised. Piper said, “I hear Bad News Brown, how he’s talking about Harlem, and how he’s proud to be from Harlem. Now I can stand here, and I can be black! I can be white! Don’t make no difference to me. … It’s what’s inside.”
Another scene reportedly deleted is from a 2005 Survivor Series 19 match where WWE CEO Vince McMahon (in character as a corporate villain) says the n-word on stage. McMahon then walks Booker T, a black wrestler, who says: “Tell me you didn’t just say that?”
According to the New York Post, Peacock is reviewing all 17,000 hours of its WWE catalog to look for “racist” content to delete.
The streamer recently won its bid to stream all of the WWE’s programming which will become available this month.
According to PW Insider:
The 4/1/90 Wrestlemania 6 event has seen Roddy Piper vs. Bad News Brown and a Piper backstage promo removed from the event. This was the bout where Piper was painted half-black. The edit appears to be why Wrestlemania VI was the last of the flagship WWE PPVs to be added to Peacock.
The 11/27/05 Survivor Series event has seen the infamous vignette where Mr. McMahon drops the “n” word to John Cena in a conversational way, leading to Booker T saying, “Tell me I didn’t just hear that” when McMahon walks off, also removed.
In each case, it’s material that was certainly questionable at the time and has certainly not aged well since. None of it falls under good taste when viewed in 2021. The same material did appear on the WWE Network versions of those shows.
Obviously, Peacock will be removing anything that goes against their community standards and practices going forward, so it should be interesting to see Attitude Era, ECW, territory-era content that pushes the envelope will be handled. One would think we’ll see additional edits of older material as it begins to materialize on Peacock.
The quest to purify the nation by eliminating “racism” is now becoming a religious fervor which doesn’t bode well for those who understand the lessons of history.
