As if the CDC’s contradictory and unscientific recommendations on COVID-19 weren’t bad enough, the agency seems intent on flushing what little reputation they have left by declaring racism a public health crisis. Since we apparently have this new pandemic to worry about, will Joe Biden Biden call for the development of a racism vaccine? Probably. He’s just that crazy.
It’s not as if there’s anything like a global pandemic going on for the CDC to concern itself with so CDC director Rochelle P. Walensky issued this dire warning:
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the death of over 500,000 Americans. Tens of millions have been infected. And across this country people are suffering. Importantly, these painful experiences and the impact of COVID-19 is felt, most severely, in communities of color—communities that have experienced disproportionate case counts and deaths, and where the social impact of the pandemic has been most extreme.
Yet, the disparities seen over the past year were not a result of COVID-19. Instead, the pandemic illuminated inequities that have existed for generations and revealed for all of America a known, but often unaddressed, epidemic impacting public health: racism.
What we know is this: racism is a serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of millions of Americans.
How do “we” know that racism is a serious public health threat? Unfortunately the CDC didn’t back this outrageous claim up with anything resembling proof.
I however have some interesting statistics:
78% of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the US overweight or obese, CDC finds
And this from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:
African American women have the highest rates of obesity or being overweight compared to other groups in the United States. About 4 out of 5 African American women are overweight or obese.
In 2018, non-Hispanic blacks were 1.3 times more likely to be obese as compared to non-Hispanic whites.
In 2018, African American women were 50 percent more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic white women.
From 2013-2016, non-Hispanic black females were 2.3 times more likely to be overweight as compared to non-Hispanic white females.
In 2018, African Americans were 20 percent less likely to engage in active physical activity as compared to non-Hispanic whites.
Well there’s yer problem and it’s certainly not a race-based one.
Additionally, the CDC tells us that the spread of COVID-19 can be stopped by mask-wearing and social distancing, something communities of color don’t do while partying and rioting. If the coronavirus is disproportionately affecting communities of color it is because of the conscious decisions made by these communities, not racism.
The CDC’s proclamation of racism as a public health crisis is bullshit but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a bullshit plan to deal with it.
No kidding, they are going to study the problem, which begs the question: if they haven’t yet studied it, how can they make this claim?
Additionally, they are making, new and expanded investments in racial and ethnic minority communities,” “expanding our internal agency efforts to foster greater diversity,” and “launching our new web portal.”
If this seems underwhelming, that’s because it is but the good news is, it’s sure to work. When you have a make-believe problem, make-believe solutions can’t fail.
Once again the CDC proves they are not serious people.
