Def-Con News already told you about the transgender U.S. Olympian who plans on burning the American flag on the podium at the Tokyo Olympic games this summer, but there’s another America-hater on Team USA. A hammer thrower on the U.S. Women’s Track & Field Team celebrated her inclusion on the Olympic squad by disrespecting the American flag. She also says she plans to use the Olympics to promote social justice.
Here’s ESPN with the latest on America’s woke Olympic team:
For the past week, the national anthem has played one time per evening at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. On Saturday, the song happened to start while outspoken activist Gwen Berry was standing on the podium after receiving her bronze medal in the hammer throw.
While the music played, Berry placed her left hand on her hip and fidgeted. She took a quarter turn, so she was facing the stands, not the flag. Toward the end, she plucked up her black T-shirt with the words “Activist Athlete” emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head.
One of these things is not like the others:
The white woman, AKA the first and second place athletes, had no problem showing proper respect for the National Anthem.
“I feel like it was a setup, and they did it on purpose. I was pissed, to be honest,” said Berry.
Pissed that the American National Anthem was played during the medal awards ceremony? She’s going to be in for a shock in the actual Olympics, because that’s what they do every single time: play the national anthem of the winner’s country.
Another thing Berry doesn’t quite get is that making the U.S. Olympic team means representing America in international competition:
“My purpose and my mission is bigger than sports. I’m here to represent those … who died due to systemic racism. That’s the important part. That’s why I’m going. That’s why I’m here today,” Berry said.
So she’s representing no one? Seriously, who has died of systemic racism? The answer is no one.
As it turns out, the likelihood that Berry will reach the podium in Tokyo to shit all over our country is pretty slim. She barely made the team, beating out the forth place woman by inches and her qualifying throw was 7 felt shorter than winner DeAnna Price.
As ESPN notes, Berry isn’t actually planning on winning to be an asshole in front of the world:
But Berry doesn’t think she needs to be on the podium in Tokyo to have the biggest impact.
“I don’t need to do anything sport-wise. What I need to do is speak for my community, to represent my community and to help my community. Because that’s more important than sports,” said Berry.
Then why compete in sports at all? The point of of the Olympics is for athletes to compete against the best in the world and to represent their countries. If her agenda is “bigger than sports” she shouldn’t be in sports.
And here’s the thing, the people in her community would rather see her go to Tokyo and win a gold medal than her sucking out loud and making an ass of herself on their behalf. There’s not one black person who follows the Olympics who thinks woke mediocrity is better than patriotic excellence.
