Keith Olbermann: 2nd Amendment Doesn’t Authorize Gun Ownership

Liberal basement-troll Keith Olbermann had such a severe case of TDS that he swore off politics forever. Because he’s a liberal, his word is meaningless and he’s back weighing in on political issues with his patented flair for stupidity. In an unhinged rant, Olberman claims that the 2nd Amendment doesn’t authorize private gun ownership.

Olbermann was reacting to the news that 4 people were arrested near the MLB All-Star game in Colorado with a cache of guns and drugs. Like all liberals, he completely misunderstands what happened and thinks that a potential mass shooting was thwarted. In reality, it was two groups of people who appear to have been involved in a drugs-for-guns exchange. But hey, since when do facts matter to liberal assholes pushing an agenda?

“Consider again the holy 2nd Amendment to the Constitution and ask yourself this question: why doesn’t the 2nd Amendment have the word ‘own’ in it? Why does it not say ‘the right to own guns?’ Or any synonym for ‘own?,'” said Olbermann.

Well, it does say “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” “Keep” meaning to have and “bear” meaning to hold. If you can have and hold something, it’s pretty clear that you can own that thing. Don’t worry, English scholar Olbermann actually tried to address this semantics clusterf*ck:

“‘Keep and bear’ not ‘own.’ Keep doesn’t mean own. Bear doesn’t mean own,” Olberamnn said.

And yet when you put them together in the proper context they do mean own. I’m surprised he didn’t point out that “right” “people” and “infringed” also don’t mean own. This is the argument of a child on the autism spectrum.

“Our nation has been covered neck-high in this bullshit that the 2nd Amendment makes gun ownership not only legal but sacrosanct,” said Olbermann.

Because Olberman doesn’t understand how the English language works, he thinks he knows more about Constitutional rights than the Supreme Court, which has ruled definitively that the 2nd Amendment does protect the right of private gun ownership.

“The 2nd Amendment isn’t about gun ownership, it’s about regulation of state militias,” claimed Olbermann.

Wrong again, Keith. The 2nd Amendment is two thoughts; 1) that a well regulated militia is key to maintaining freedom and 2) that people have a right to keep and bear arms. Also, there are no state militias. The National Guard are part of the U.S. Military or, as our Founding Fathers would call them, a standing national army. No state has an organized citizen militia.

Olbermann is way off on this fact-free rant but what he gets the most wrong is that any amendment “authorizes” anything. The 1st Amendment doesn’t authorize free speech, it protects the right of free speech. The 2nd Amendment doesn’t authorize gun ownership, it protects the right of gun ownership.

The Bill of Rights is not a list of things the government will allow the people to do, it’s a list of rights that people inherently have, which the governemnet may not f*ck with under any circumstance.
