Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel established the democratic party creed: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste” but now he’s creating a crisis within his own party. Several members of AOC’s Squad are pissed that Biden has picked Obama’s former chief of staff to be the U.S. ambassador to Japan. In case you haven’t already guessed, yes, this is about race.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
President Joe Biden tapped Rahm Emanuel to be the next U.S. ambassador to Japan on Friday, adding if confirmed a new chapter for a man who’s been a two-term Chicago mayor, congressman and chief of staff to a president.
Progressives mounted a drive to block the nomination of Emanuel, who was former President Barack Obama’s first chief of staff and a senior adviser to former President Bill Clinton.
However, his long-time relationship with Biden, who was Obama’s vice president, and his closeness to three of his highest-level aides – Ron Klain, Steve Ricchetti and Bruce Reed – cleared the way for his comeback into public life.
Neither a Japan expert nor a career diplomat, Emanuel would be a high-profile ambassador, his closeness to Biden and other crucial West Wing figures a visible sign of the importance of Japan, a strong U.S. ally.
That was some nice spin by the Sun-Times to turn the fact that Emanuel is completely unqualified into a net-positive, wasn’t it?
While it’s evident that Emanuel only got the job because he’s swamp-dwelling crony, some members of the Loon Squad have disqualified him for a different reason:
Rahm Emanuel covered up the murder of Laquan McDonald.
He must be disqualified from ever holding an appointed position in any administration.

Rahm Emanuel, as the Mayor of Chicago, covered up the murder of Laquan McDonald.
That alone should disqualify him from any public position.

Laquan McDonald was the justified police shooting outrage that came between Michael Brown and George Floyd. Unlike Brown and Floyd, McDonald was actually armed when he was killed by Chicago police. Like Brown and Floyd, McDonald was whacked on on drugs, in this case PCP, when cops had no choice but to light him up.
The Black lIves Matter outrage was so great that the white cop who shot McDonald was tried and convicted of murder. No seriously, McDonald was high on PCP while brandishing a knife and former Chicago PD officer Jason Van Dyke was convicted of 2nd degree murder for defending his own life. Plus McDonald’s family got a sweet $5 million pay day from the city.
All of this happened under Rahm Emanuel’s watch as Chicago Mayor in 2014 and the Squad obviously blames him.
I agree with the Squad that Emanuel is unqualified to be the ambassador to Japan, but not because of the manufactured racial outrage. The fact is, Emanuel is a jackass. Japan is a polite society that places importance on honor and respect. Rahm Emanuel literally tells everyone to “f*ck off” and will surely offend the country and embarrass ours.
