Freedom from Fear: Stop Playing the Government’s Mind Games
By John W. Whitehead & Nisha Whitehead
“No one can terrorize a whole nation, unless we are all his accomplices.”—Edward R. Murrow, broadcast journalist
America is in the midst of an epidemic of historic proportions.
The contagion being spread like wildfire is turning communities into battlegrounds and setting Americans one against the other.
Normally mild-mannered individuals caught up in the throes of this disease have been transformed into belligerent zealots, while others inclined to pacifism have taken to stockpiling weapons and practicing defensive drills.
This plague on our nation—one that has been spreading like wildfire—is a potent mix of fear coupled with unhealthy doses of paranoia and intolerance, tragic hallmarks of the post-9/11 America in which we live and the constantly shifting crises that keep the populace in a state of high alert.
Everywhere you turn, those on both the left- and right-wing are fomenting distrust and division. You can’t escape it.
We’re being fed a constant diet of fear: fear of a virus, fear of the unmasked, fear of terrorists, fear of illegal immigrants, fear of people who are too religious, fear of people who are not religious enough, fear of extremists, fear of the government, fear of those who fear the government. The list goes on and on.
The strategy is simple yet effective: the best way to control a populace is through fear and discord.
Fear makes people stupid.
Confound them, distract them with mindless news chatter and entertainment, pit them against one another by turning minor disagreements into major skirmishes, and tie them up in knots over matters lacking in national significance.
Most importantly, divide the people into factions, persuade them to see each other as the enemy and keep them screaming at each other so that they drown out all other sounds. In this way, they will never reach consensus about anything and will be too distracted to notice the police state closing in on them until the final crushing curtain falls.
This is how free people enslave themselves and allow tyrants to prevail.
This Machiavellian scheme has so ensnared the nation that few Americans even realize they are being manipulated into adopting an “us” against “them” mindset. Instead, fueled with fear and loathing for phantom opponents, they agree to pour millions of dollars and resources into political elections, militarized police, spy technology, endless wars, COVID-19 mandates, etc., hoping for a guarantee of safety that never comes.
All the while, those in power—bought and paid for by lobbyists and corporations—move their costly agendas forward, and “we the suckers” get saddled with the tax bills and subjected to pat downs, police raids and round-the-clock surveillance.
Turn on the TV or flip open the newspaper on any given day, and you will find yourself accosted by reports of government corruption, corporate malfeasance, militarized police, marauding SWAT teams, and egregious assaults on the rights of the citizenry.
America has already entered a new phase, one in which communities are locked down, employees are forced to choose between keeping their jobs or exercising their freedoms, children are arrested in schools, military veterans are forcibly detained by government agents, and law-abiding Americans are finding their movements tracked, their financial transactions documented and their communications monitored.
These threats are not to be underestimated.
Yet even more dangerous than these violations of our basic rights is the language in which they are couched: the language of fear. It is a language spoken effectively by politicians on both sides of the aisle, shouted by media pundits from their cable TV pulpits, marketed by corporations, and codified into bureaucratic laws that do little to make our lives safer or more secure.
Fear, as history shows, is the method most often used by politicians to increase the power of government.
So far, these tactics are working.
An atmosphere of fear permeates modern America. MORE.

Newsom Office Said Biden Supported His Move Abolishing Suburbs In California. Could The U.S. Be Next? https://t.co/n5JQTKpB0Y pic.twitter.com/bRczLyvpNW

Immediately after winning a recall election, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation that would effectively turn suburbs into cities by forcing towns to allow lots to be subdivided so that lawns were as small as four feet.
It is a move widely detested by suburban voters; last month, The New York Times said lawmakers feared “angering suburban voters, whose preferences for single-family home living have been regarded as politically sacrosanct.”
The Times said SB 9 “was furiously opposed by homeowners and local government groups who said it ‘crushes single-family zoning’ and would be ‘the beginning of the end of homeownership in California.’”
But Newsom’s office said the move was supported by the Biden administration, raising the prospect of the Californication of America, with similar laws at the national level during Biden’s term.
“The Governor today signed California State Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins’ SB 9, the California Housing Opportunity and More Efficiency (HOME) Act, which the White House this month commended to increase housing supply,” the governor’s office said in a statement.
Biden’s campaign housing plan says he wants to make a bill with the same name and similar effect, Sen. Cory Booker’s HOME Act, national law. That bill would withhold federal transportation dollars from any town or county that requires minimum lot sizes or doesn’t permit apartments to be built amidst single-family homes.

Hulu’s flagship series “The Handmaid’s Tale” may delight liberal audiences who believe the show represents the reality of what people on the Right want, but its latest season failed to inspire judges at the Creative Arts and Primetime Emmys ceremonies.
Variety reported that the show received 21 nominations between the two ceremonies but didn’t win a single award. The show has now set the record for most losses in a single year, breaking the record previously set by “Mad Men” in 2012, which lost 17 nominations that year.
From Variety:
Only three shows earned more nominations than Hulu’s flagship series, with Netflix’s “The Crown” and Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian” receiving 24 noms each and “WandaVision” picking up 23. Also, like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” landed 21 noms, but managed to pick up a handful of trophies between the ceremonies.
Other empty-handers in Emmy history include “Northern Exposure” and “The Larry Sanders Show,” which went zero for 16 in their respective years.
In the past, “The Handmaid’s Tale” delivered at the Emmys, winning the award for best drama series in 2017. It was the first streaming program to win the award. In total, the show has won 15 Emmys over the course of its four seasons. A fifth season is in the works. MORE.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Members of The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) voted this week to make major changes to the Hippocratic Oath for the first time since the 1960’s. Specifically, the Oath for new doctors is being adjusted to exclude both the unborn and the unvaccinated.
“The changes we’re making to the Oath are long overdue,” said Dr. Sarah Butcher, a member of the AAMC ruling council. “The concept that physicians should attempt to do no harm to the unborn or the unvaccinated has no place in modern society.”
Butcher said the famous first line of the Oath will be updated to read, “I promise to do no harm unless it’s killing a little unborn baby who’s really not a person yet. Also, since anyone who refused the vaccine is basically asking to die of COVID, I will let them suffer and die a horrifying death to set an example for others.”
Several other changes are also being made to the Oath, including the following new sections:
- A vow to wear a mask at all times, even while showering and sleeping, to prevent any possibility of spreading infection to others.
- A promise to provide preferential treatment to BIPOC and LGBTQ populations whenever possible while ensuring that white male oppressors get sent to the back of the line.
- Swearing to always follow the latest science, as defined by whatever new study CNN is reporting that day.
In addition to the changes in the Oath, the AAMC also announced updates to the educational requirements required for new doctors. “The requirements for licensure have changed slightly,” Butcher said. “We now require licensed doctors to either have a traditional four-year medical school degree or at least 1,000 hours of experience surfing WebMd.”
