Kamala Harris Breaks Federal Law Campaigning For Terry McAuliffe In Virginia Governor’s Race

Terry McAuliffe is a former governor of Virginia who wants to be the governor again. He’s never appeared in backface (that we know of) like current governor Ralph “Coonman” Northam but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a nightmare. In the solidly blue state that went for Biden by 10 points, Democrat McAuliffe finds himself in a dead heat with Republican Glenn Youngkin. In the funniest desperate measure, Kamala Harris has made a video for McAulife to be played in black churches across the state. As an added bonus, this is a violation of federal law.

CNN reports:

More than 300 Black churches across Virginia will hear from Vice President Kamala Harris between Sunday and election day in a video message that will air during morning services as part of an outreach effort aimed to boost McAuliffe.

In the video, first obtained by CNN, Harris said her time growing up in Oakland’s 23rd Avenue Church of God taught her it was a “sacred responsibility” to “lift up the voices of our community.”

“I believe that my friend Terry McAuliffe is the leader Virginia needs at this moment,” says Harris, before praising McAuliffe’s “long-track record of getting things done for the people of Virginia.” Harris implores congregants to vote following church service.

The McAuliffe campaign has embraced “Souls to the Polls,” block-party style events featuring top campaign surrogates after church near polling locations, to drive voter turnout.

And here is that video:

So they got a semi-black woman who is universally disliked to help prop up a sputtering campaign? That’s a pander-fail but it’s also illegal.

It turns out there is this thing called the Johnson Amendment:

The Johnson Amendment is a provision in the U.S. tax code, since 1954, that prohibits all 501(c) 3 non-profit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates. Section 501(c)3 organizations are the most common type of nonprofit organization in the United States, ranging from charitable foundations to universities and churches. The amendment is named for then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas, who introduced it in a preliminary draft of the law in July 1954.

The Johnson Amendment very specifically does not allow tax-exempt organizations such as churches to “participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.”

By showing the Kamala Harris video, these 300 black churches in Virginia are violating federal law and should have their tax-exempt status revoked. That won’t happen because this involves the political campaign of a democrat and there’s a democrat in the White House.

But hey, at least the liberal media finds this to be an outrageous abuse of power. Ha ha. Just kidding. They haven’t said and won’t say shit about this because, again, it’s a democrats doing the abusing.
