When Al Sharpton isn’t making something about race, he’s making it about himself. The Kyle Rittenhouse acquittal has him doing both. According to the good Reverend, a white teenager defending himself against white attackers means that white people can shoot Sharpton with an AR-15 when he’s out race-hustling.
The biggest shock here is that Sharpton still has a show on MSNBC. I thought they fired him years ago.
Sharpton said he was on his way to Georgia to lead a prayer vigil with the family of Ahmaud Arbery, the black man shot to death when he decided to attack a white dude with a shotgun. Sharpton however has some reservations because of the verdict in the Rittenhouse case.
“We just had ministers do a big rally and prayer vigil in Brunswick, Georgia around the case of Ahmaud Arbery. Now I’m going back to join the family there this weekend. I would be concerned of having a prayer vigil. Would somebody come there saying, ‘I’m coming to defend something”? And if they can get in altercation with somebody on the side, a verbal altercation. Could take out a gun, an AR-15 at that, and shoot somebody. We’re under a real threat,” said Sharpton.
Is Sharpton’s prayer vigil going to be a violent riot in which small business are looted and burned? If not, he’s got nothing to worry about.
Also, does he know what an AR-15 is? It’s not an easy-to-conceal weapon that someone could just “take out.” If someone has an AR, you know it.
In reality, Sharpton is not worried about his prayer vigil being lit up by white people with AR-15s, he’s mischaracterizing the events of the Rittenhouse shootings to push his racially-charged anti-gun agenda. Kenosha was a riot, not a peaceful protest or prayer vigil. Kyle Rittenhouse didn’t get in verbal altercation and open fire, he was attacked by angry adults and defend his life against them.
What Sharpton was really getting at was demanding an end to legal self-defense because he thinks it’s racist for white people to shoot black people who are trying to kill them.
“In just a few months, we’re going to be facing the ten-year anniversary of the killing of Trayvon Martin. When the “Stand Your Ground” laws became a national issue and we never really dealt with it, we never really legislated on it on a federal level,” said Sharpton.
Correction: Al Sharpton tried to make Stand Your Ground a national issue but almost nobody else thought it was a problem that people have a right to defend themselves. And that’s why nobody ever legislated on it.”
“And now we need to as a movement, as a country, make the Congress and the Senate deal with new gun laws,” Sharpton said.
If the Senate is something different than the Congress, what the hell is the Congress? Or the Senate for that matter? I’m starting to think Sharpton doesn’t know what the f*ck he’s talking about.
“We are, in my opinion, we are mandating to try and make laws. We did not do that with Stand Your Ground. We must make very clear laws to protect all,” said Sharpton.
If SYG laws were repealed and people no longer had the right to defend themselves, the only ones being protected would be criminals. In a way, Sharpton is saying that criminals are black and there needs to be laws to protect them when they attack people. It would be racist if a white guy said it.
Al Sharpton isn’t worried that white people will shoot him while he’s race hustling. His biggest worry is that there won’t be any more “egregious miscarriages of racial justice” because then he wouldn’t be able to race hustle at all.
