In the stupid ever-growing list of things that are racist, calling a black woman “beautiful” is now a hate crime. The Chief of Psychiatry at Columbia University has been accused of racism for a tweet in which he referred to a black model as a beauty. Making things extra-stupid, this man’s life has been completely destroyed because of it.
Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman is/was chair of Columbia University’s department of psychiatry, psychiatrist-in-chief at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and executive director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Earlier this week he responded to a tweet concerning dark-skinned model Nyakim Gatwech.

First of all, that woman is so black she went to night school and got marked absent. She’s so black, when she goes outside the street lights turn on. She’s so black, she could show up naked to a funeral.
Secondly, Lieberman wasn’t insulting her, he said she was a “beautiful sight to behold.” Yes, he did indicate that she may be a “freak of nature” but human beings aren’t normally that dark, so it’s fitting. Black people are generally brown while Nyakim Gatwech is literally black.
Lieberman deleted his tweet and apologized because people were freaking out on the “racism” of his praise.
“TWEET DELETED. My sincere apologies for any offense taken and indiscretion. Living and learning,” wrote Lieberman before deactivating his Twitter account.
That wasn’t good enough, so Lieberman had to grovel some more in an e-mail to colleagues:
I tweeted from my personal account a message that was racist and sexist. Prejudices and stereotypical assumptions I didn’t know I held have been exposed—to myself and to you—and I’m deeply ashamed and very sorry.
I have participated in the many efforts of Columbia University, including by the medical faculty, the New York State Office of Mental Health, and New York-Presbyterian to root out discrimination at all levels. And although tackling unconscious bias is an ongoing part of these efforts, it starts internally.
An apology from me to the Black community, to women, and to all of you is not enough. I’ve hurt many, and I am beginning to understand the work ahead to make needed personal changes and over time to regain your trust.
That also wasn’t good enough so Lieberman was suspended from heading Columbia’s department of psychiatry, removed as psychiatrist-in-chief and forced to resign as executive director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
This man’s entire life and decades of hard work and accomplishment was flushed down the toilet because he sent out a tweet praising the beauty of a black model. Twitter and Cancel Culture are some evil mothers*ckers.
The thing is, as head of anything at Columbia University, there’s no way in hell Lieberman is anything but a liberal douchebag. While it sucks that a person’s life can be destroyed over something so stupid, it’s always funny when the left eats its own.
