The City of Philadelphia, like all major cities run by democrats, is a crime-ridden shithole. Philly Mayor Jim Kenney doesn’t think the lack of safety in his city is because of anything he did or didn’t do but rather because “we live in American and have the 2nd Amendment” If it were up to Kenney, only cops would be allowed to have guns.
At a 4th of July event Monday night in Philadelphia, 2 police offers were shot. Mayor Kenney held an impromptu press conference in which he unveiled his plan to make the city safer by wishing away the Constitution:
“We live in America and have the 2nd Amendment and we have the Supreme Court of the United States telling everyone they can carry a gun wherever they want so it’s Dodge City,” said Kenney.
When did the Supreme Court do that? What the most recent SCOTUS decision on a gun case said was that law-abiding people cannot be denied a concealed carry permit based on any sort of need. It doesn’t say people can carry guns wherever they want and it certainly doesn’t allow convicted felons and other banned people to legally obtain firearms.
“We have to come to grips with what this country is about right now. We had a beautiful day out there today except for some nitwit, either shooting from a window or shooting from somewhere, who has a gun he probably shouldn’t have,” Kenney said.
Perhaps calling someone who tried to murder 2 police officers a “nitwit” is part of the problem and indicative of Kenney’s soft-on-crime policies. At least he acknowledged that the shooter was possibly in illegal possession of the firearm he used, but that line of thinking went out the door with what Kenney said next:
“I was in Canada a few weeks ago and never thought about a gun. The only people I knew had guns up in Canada were police officers and that’s the way out should be here,” said Kenney.
Canada does have restrictive gun control laws, but plenty of non-law enforcement Hosers have guns. Regardless of the false information Kenney gave, he’s still suggesting that only cops should be allowed to have guns in America. Is he aware that 99.9% of all shootings involved people using guns they are not allowed to have?
In Kenney’s fantasy world, guns would be illegal for anyone but law enforcement to possess. That means that the people would be disarmed, but really, only the people who obey the law would turn their guns in. That still leaves all of the criminals who weren’t allowed to have guns before, with guns they still aren’t allowed to have.
This situation not only doesn’t solve the violent crime problem in his city, it creates more victims because the people can no longer protect themselves.
Kenney conceded that it’s unlikely he’d ever see his gun-free utopia and lamented, “A lot of goofballs out there with guns and they can get them anytime they want so this is what we have to live with.”
Attempted cop killers are “nitwits” and cold-blooded killers are “goofballs.” Again, maybe if he took fighting crime seriously, Philly wouldn’t be such a scary place.
Later, Kenney said, “I look forward to not being Mayor.”
I’m sure everyone besides the scumbags in Philadelphia feels the same way.
