Ray Epps is that mysterious figure who was seen encouraging people to enter the Capitol on January 6 and managed to escape prosecution while grandmothers were convicted of illegal parading. Conventional wisdom says he’s a federal asset and the fact that The New York Times just did a fluff piece on him doesn’t make him seem less connected to the establishment regime.
To refresh your memory, here’s some video of Ray Epps telling protesters that they have to enter the Capitol:

Epps was atop the FBI’s most wanted J6 insurrectionist list but suddenly they removed him. He has never been arrested or charged with a crime despite video evidence of him instigating the Capitol breach. For this reason alone, it doesn’t seem far fetched that he is or was working for the FBI on January 6.
The fact that the democratic party’s Ministry of Propaganda is doing PR work for Epps doesn’t help his case that he’s just some innocent rando:
Ray Epps has suffered enormously in the past 10 months as right-wing media figures and Republican politicians have baselessly described him as a covert government agent who helped to instigate the attack on the Capitol last year. @alanfeuer https://t.co/fDMuiqbHxu

Obscure right-wing media outlets, like Revolver News, used selectively edited videos and unfounded leaps of logic to paint him as a secret federal asset in charge of a “breach team” responsible for setting off the riot at the Capitol.

If by “selectively edited videos” they mean videos of Epps literally telling people they have to go in the Capitol on January 6, then yes, that’s what right-wing media outlets are guilty of.
This NYT fluff piece is so shameless it tries to claim Epps was actually trying to deescalate things on January 6. Please refer to the video at the top where Epps says, “As soon as the President is done speaking, we go into the Capitol.”
While we’re on the subject, Epps encouraged others to storm the Capitol but he never went in himself. Yet another reason to think he was working with the feds.
Even Epps NYT-assisted plea for sympathy sounds like a load of shit:
The problems began for Mr. Epps almost as soon as Revolver News published its first article about him in October. Suddenly, there were emailed death threats; trespassers on his property demanding “answers” about Jan. 6; and acquaintances, fellow members of his church, even family members who disowned him, he said.
In late December, Ms. Epps discovered shell casings on the ground near the bunkhouse of the farm-style wedding venue they owned in Arizona, suggesting that someone had been shooting at the building.
Were there bullet holes in the building, indicating someone had been shooting at it, or no?
Then, in January, Mr. Epps received a letter from someone claiming to have been brought into the country by a Mexican drug cartel.
The writer said he had overheard some cartel members talking about killing Mr. Epps.
“I right on paper to tell you need to be look out,” the letter said in broken English. “These drug gang people very bad people.”
He pissed off pro-Trump people and now the Mexican drug cartels are coming after him? How does that make any sense?
…Ms. Epps went into hiding, leaving Mr. Epps to arm himself and run the family business for a while through his security team.
He has a security team? Also, his wife goes by “Ms. Epps”?
“All of this, it’s just been hell. I am at the center of this thing, and it’s the biggest farce that’s ever been. It’s just not right,” said Epps.
“It has a been a nightmare,” Ms. Epps added.
Imagine the hellish nightmare the people who have been sitting a Gulag for a year and half are experiencing for following Epps’ lead to breach the Capitol.
