Man Who Tried To Murder Republican Congressman Released On His Own Recognizance

A man attacked a Member of Congress with a bladed weapon so you’d think he’d be locked up with no bail, right? The problem is, there are a couple of mitigating circumstances. One, the Congressman is a Republican and two, the assassination attempt was in New York, where crime has been decriminalized. Instead, the would-be assassin has been released on his own recognizance.

Lee Zeldin is a Republican House Representative from Long Island, NY. He is also the Republican candidate for Governor of New York. On Thursday, Zeldin was campaigning in Monroe County, NY and ironically giving a speech against bail reform.

Suddenly, 43-year old David Jakubonis jumped up on the stage and attacked Zeldin. Jakubonis had a bladed weapon that was essentially brass knuckles with knives. Zeldin was able to grab Jakunbonis’ arm before he could stab the Congressman. Then, members of the crowd tackled Jakubonis and held him until police arrived.

Zeldin tweeted about the attack and proved he is a bit psychic:

In fact, the attacker was released. After only being charged with second degree attempted assault, Jakubonis was released on his own recognizance.

Think about the insanity of that. A man, with a bladed weapon, tried to kill a Member of Congress and he was only charged with attempted assault and set free. The assault wasn’t attempted, it occurred. Also, that assault was with a weapon, so it has to be attempted murder.

And the reason why this piece of shit was released is because New York has woke bail reform, which sets criminals free for just about any offense. The system was designed to keep black criminals out of jail from crimes they’ve committed but it accientllay freed a white scumbag. I’m sure there will be a BLM match over this.

On the plus side, Zeldin, who is running a tough-on-crime campaign, just got himself a pretty good political ad. He can say, the guy who tried to kill him was barely charged and released back onto the streets in minutes.

Speaking of the campaign, NY Gov. Kathy Hochul, who Zeldin is running against, condemned the attack (kind of) but couldn’t bring herself to acknowledge it was an attack:

Would it have been an “incident” if a man with a bladed weapon tried to stab Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Of course not. She thinks people are trying to kill her when they criticize the stupid things she says and the liberal media goes along with it it.

If Hochul truly feels that this kind of “violent behavior” has no place in New York, why does she support the system that puts these violent criminals right back on the street?
