A new poll is pretty much the Maxwell Smart of surveys: Would you believe half of all Republicans want more gun gun control? *shake head* Well, would you believe more than half of all gun owners want more gun control? *shakes head* Well, would you believe I’m completely full of shit? *nods yes*
The AP is reporting on an anti-gun propaganda piece masquerading as a gun control opinion poll:
The poll by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows 71 percent of Americans say gun laws should be stricter, including about half of Republicans, the vast majority of Democrats and a majority of those in gun-owning households.
The AP didn’t link to the poll or give the data but even without those things we can see what a load of horse shit this is. If the vast majority of democrats, half of all Republicans, and more than half of all gun owners want more gun control, the overall number would be greater than 71%. Even more so because it’s a guarantee that Republicans and gun owners are vastly underrepresented in this poll, just like every other poll.
Here’s some more bullshit:
A smaller majority of Americans — 59 percent — favor a ban on the sale of AR-15 rifles and similar semiautomatic weapons, with Democrats more likely to support that policy than Republicans, 83 percent vs. 35 percent.
Have you ever met a Republican who supports banning any kind of gun or gun control in general? I haven’t and yet here is a poll saying 35% of Republicans want to ban AR-15s.
Of course those numbers are completely made up and don’t represent any kind of realistic attitude towards gun control in this country. Apparently The AP is as bad at faking polls as they are faking news.
I may have found the reason the results of this survey are so skewed:
The poll shows bipartisan majorities of Americans support a nationwide background check policy for all gun sales, a law preventing mentally ill people from purchasing guns, allowing courts to temporarily prevent people who are considered a danger to themselves or others from purchasing a gun, making 21 the minimum age to buy a gun nationwide and banning those who have been convicted of domestic violence from purchasing a gun.
Literally all of those things are already on the books besides the 21 age requirement. There is already a background check system, crazy people can’t buy guns, judges can remove guns from dangerous people, and people convicted of felony domestic violence also can’t buy guns.
Basically the poll asked people if they want gun control laws that already exist and then came to the conclusion that most Americans want more gun control. If I am currently happy with the number of toes I have, which I am, that doesn’t mean I support adding additional digits to my foot.
I don’t know about you, but I have never once been asked to participate in any kind of a poll, which would seem to be a statistical anomaly. Also, gun owners tend not to want to participate in these kinds of things. You get some pollster calling up a gun owner asking if they own a gun and would like to take a poll and 99% of the time the answer is “f*ck off!”
Clearly this is some made-up shit to help push the lie that Americans no longer care about their Constitutional rights. The point of this poll is so democrats can say “71% of Americans, including most gun owners are demanding more ‘gun safety'” while they are pushing their latest unconstitutional atrocity.
