In the latest example of terrible democrat deal-making, Joe Biden has traded a Russian arms dealer, known as “The Merchant of Death” for drug-smuggling WNBA player Brittney Griner. It’s not quite as bad as when Obama traded 5 Taliban fighters for Army deserter and traitor Bowe Bergdahl, but it ain’t great either.
Joe Biden announced that he had signed off on a prisoner exchange with Russia which would swap convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout for convicted drug smuggler Brittney Griner. Well, that’s not entirely true as Biden never once mentioned Bout’s name.
And there’s a pretty good reason Biden said nothing of Bout, he’s a bad dude. Bout, known as “The Merchant of Death” was convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to kill Americans and conspiracy to deliver weapons like anti-aircraft missiles to terrorist organizations. He was serving a 25-year sentence in a U.S. prison.
Bout is also a Russian intelligence asset, which would explain why the Kremlin is so interested in getting him back.
Griner on the other hand is just some person who f*cked up and found out. She was busted trying to bring marijuana vape oil into Russia. She pled guilty to drug smuggling charges and was sentence to 9 years. She has no intelligence value whatsoever.
The negotiations for this prisoner exchange have been going on for months and originally included former U.S. Marine, Paul Whelan, who was framed for espionage and sits in a Russian prison. It does not appear that Whelan was part of this awful deal Biden made.
Whelan was arrested in 2018 when he traveled to Russia to attend the wedding of a friend. Russia accused him of spying, without elaborating much beyond that. The U.S. State Department has said that Whelan’s arrest and subsequent conviction is a complete work of fiction as he has no ties to any intelligence agencies. He is currently rotting away in a Russian Gulag, serving a 16-year sentence.
Biden certainly could have pushed for and secured Whelan’s release but clearly got out-negotiated by Vladimir Putin.
The thing about swapping The Merchant of Death for Brittney Griner is, it’s completely lopsided. Bout is an enemy of the United States and has intelligence that can hurt us and help Russia. Griner is a female basketball player, which is one of the least important things a person can be.
Also, Griner did what she was convicted of. She broke the laws of another country and admitted to her crimes. She literally will not have to face the consequences of her actions and our enemy is getting back an asset they can use against us.
The reason for Biden making such a shitty deal is painfully obvious. Griner is a black female and Joe is trying to score some “woke” points for securing her release. Whelan is a white male and therefore has no virtue signaling value to the Biden administration.
Joe Biden is hoping that by getting Griner out of Russian jail, black people will hail him as a champion of the black community and forget that he’s made all of their lives worse with his disastrous polices.
