Oregon Wants To Pay Homeless People $1000 A Month

There’s a secret contest between blue states to see who can come up with the dumbest approach to the homeless crisis. Oregon is looking to take the lead from California, who pays $130,000 for bum sheds, by paying homeless people $1,000 a month, no strings attached.

Fox News reports:

The state of Oregon is weighing a bill to give homeless and low-income people $1,000 a month in universal basic income.

The Oregon state legislature is considering a bill to establish a People’s Housing Assistance Fund Demonstration Program through the state’s Department of Human Services.

According to Bill Track 50, the legislation would “provide 12 monthly payments of $1,000 to individuals who are experiencing homelessness, are at risk of homelessness, are severely rent burdened or earn at or below 60 percent of area median income.”

The $1,000 payments can be used at recipients’ discretion, but supporters say it will be used toward rent and other living expenses.

If homeless people, many who are suffering from substance abuse issues, can spend the money any way they want, there’s a zero percent chance it will go to paying for rent.

This bill won’t do a damn thing to solve the homeless problem in Oregon, but there are couple of things it will achieve. First, people will move to Oregon, just to be bums, so they can collect those generous tax-payer funded checks. Second, people with jobs, AKA the taxpayers, are going to move to another state so they don’t lose half their paychecks to finance the drug habits of the state’s homeless population.

There’s a third unintended consequence scenario that the liberal dipshits running the state probably haven’t considered. When you give someone who is addicted to drugs $1,000 in cash, they tend to splurge, rather than budget the money, so this will likely trigger an overdose epidemic. In a way, killing off the homeless people solves the problem, but not in a moral, ethical, or humane way.

This really will create a wave of homeless tourism in the state, because there will obviously be no residency restrictions. Homeless people don’t have residences, hence their name, so anyone can show up on an Oregon street and instantly qualify for $1,000 a month payment. It’s not like the state can say people have to be an Oregon bum for a year before getting the payment, because that would be impossible to prove.

The biggest problem is that liberal states don’t understand the homeless problem in any way, so they can’t possibly solve it. Liberals think the people on the street are there because they can’t find affordable housing or that they are temporarily down on their luck. The reality is, most homeless are substance abusers or have mental health issues. Sometimes both.

They way to fix this problem is not to throw money at “solutions” that don’t address the core issue. The majority of homeless people need to be in rehab or a mental health facility so they can get right. It would cost a hell of lot less to do this than what the blue states are currently doing, which is one reason why liberals won’t try it. They only like costly shit that doesn’t work.
