A gun range operator in Massachusetts is sounding the alarm as sweeping gun control legislation makes its way through the state’s Leftist-controlled legislature.
This from msn.com.
According to a report:
The Act of Modernizing Firearms Laws would mandate registration for every gun and its accompanying feeding system, bar citizens under 21 from buying or carrying a rifle or semi-automatic shotgun, and ban the carrying of firearms on private property without explicit permission.
Also banned in the extensive 140-page legislation are human silhouette targets and the possession of pepper spray/mace for those under 18.
The report noted:
[Also] tasers or stun guns would be defined as firearms, and the state’s red flag laws would be expanded to include school administrators, select medical professionals, and employers.
Tom Cheffro, an Everett native and owner of Boston Firearms, said:
What the gun owners in this state need to know is that if this law passes, we are all in jeopardy of becoming criminals.
This act of modernizing firearms was not modernizing anything. … It’s just complicating everything to an already complicated firearms law system.
According to a report:
[Communist/Globalist] state House Speaker Ronald Mariano is pushing the legislation, but a dispute in both houses of the legislature has stalled its progress.
Mariano said:
Although gun laws in Massachusetts are ‘among the best in the nation,’ the United States Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding concealed carry permits necessitated the Act of Modernizing Firearms Laws.
Cheffro, a 20-year veteran in the self-defense and firearms industry, believes that, if passed, the legislation will make the process of legally obtaining and owning a gun far too confusing.
According to Cheffro:
I don’t think it will make anybody in Massachusetts more safe. I just think it’s a total overreach. It’s not common sense.
He continued:
I think they just got a lot of stuff, threw it together, and said, ‘Let’s put this in a bill.
This can affect my business by people being afraid to go get their gun license now out of fear of becoming a criminal.
In particular, the business owner criticized measures in the legislation that would ban children under the age of 15 from using a firearm, even under their parent’s supervision, and mandate the serialization of magazines.
He said:
They grow up with their parents on firearms. So now what? You can’t do that anymore. I don’t think that’s right.
Where are they getting the manpower to do all this stuff? I believe there’s gotta be millions of magazines in Massachusetts. How are they going to do that?
Cheffro said:
[He] has no idea how this legislation would make the people of Massachusetts safer,
He said:
If I’m a criminal, I’m just going to go and do it. … So, basically, it’s again making law-abiding people criminals, and that’s how I feel.
The state wants to put a limit on where you can carry firearms without permission or stuff like that. But they want you to take active shooter training.
So what happens if you can’t carry a gun in certain areas and here comes the shooter? Then what do you do? It just doesn’t seem like it’s common sense.
He added:
Laws in Massachusetts are already complicated enough.
Cheffro concluded in frustration:
So, what’s next in this state? They’re going to start to ban squirt guns?
Final thoughts: Lawsuits against un-Constitutionality and more eventual Supreme Court action no doubt.
