GOP Congressman Reveals Shocking Way Members of Congress Use Their Offices and Why

Republican Rep. Eric Burlison of Missouri said some of his congressional colleagues are so terrified of the runaway crime in the nation’s capital that they sleep in their offices for fear of being attacked or murdered on the streets.

This from westernjournal.com.

Burlison made the shocking remarks Wednesday during an interview with radio host Todd Starnes on his podcast.

Starnes mentioned that [Leftist] Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint on Monday in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, where multiple members of Congress live.

He asked:

How dangerous is it in Washington?

Burlison replied:

It’s very dangerous. I mean, it’s insane to even own a car in D.C. because wherever you park, it is going to cost you a fortune and it’s likely to get broken into and you’re likely to get carjacked.

The congressman continued:

You know, we hunker down in the Capitol building. … It’s a security calculation to actually sleep in your office.

A stunned Starnes followed up by asking:

You’re telling me that it’s so dangerous in Washington that some of these lawmakers are actually sleeping in their offices?

“Yeah,” Burlison said.

I mean, Todd, I don’t want to walk back and forth from an apartment in D.C. at night or in the early morning to get to work. It’s not a safe environment.

If the United States under The Obiden Regime weren’t a total clown show, this wouldn’t be tolerated. The epicenter of national politics should be among the safest places in the country.

The glaring irony of lawmakers worrying they’ll be victimized by criminals in the nation’s capital defies credulity.

Starnes said:

It’s shocking. I think I have to imagine people listening to this, congressman, are just dumbfounded that things are that bad in Washington, D.C.

I know Sen. Mike Lee last night was tweeting that maybe it’s time to take back control of the district.

Burlison blamed the rampant lawlessness on “progressive leftists” who push toxic, soft-on-crime policies.

Crime in D.C. has skyrocketed, mirroring a sickening trend metastasizing in other Democrat-run cities such as Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco and Chicago.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department:

[V]iolent crimes in Washington are up 40 percent year over year, with robberies up 70 percent and homicides up 38 percent. Car theft has risen 105 percent.

It is a pitiful reflection of the appalling state of the nation that not even our elected officials are safe from crime. Surely, this is not the country our Founding Fathers had envisioned.

By now, it’s painfully obvious that criminals are equal-opportunity offenders.

 – In February, C/G Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota was assaulted in the elevator of her D.C. apartment building.

– In March, a staffer of R Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky was stabbed while walking down a Washington street with a friend.

What will be required for these Leftist mayors to acknowledge that emboldening and incentivizing thuggery with their lax policies is endangering the public—and themselves?

As reported by Axios, just days ago, D.C.’s crime map is a tale of two cities divided by Rock Creek, with violence increasing most sharply east of the park.

Most of this year’s 212 homicides and gunfire have occurred in Northeast and Southeast, especially hurting families and the lives of young people in D.C.’s communities of color.

By the numbers: Violent crime is up 38% in D.C. compared to the same time last year.

 – The Anacostia and Fairlawn area has recorded 10 homicides so far this year, one of the highest concentrations in the city.

– The Brentwood area in Northeast has seen nine homicides.

– In Adams Morgan, robberies soared 95% from last year.

West of Rock Creek Park, violence is relatively low in affluent and majority-white neighborhoods like Tenleytown and Georgetown.

 – But motor vehicle thefts in Ward 3, which includes upper Wisconsin and Connecticut avenues, have increased by 48 incidents compared to last year.

A mix of residents interviewed by the Washington Post last month showed a portrait of a city shaken by the violence, perhaps most intensely since the much more violent 1980s and 1990s.

 – For example: With many teenagers becoming victims of crime, parents are worried about the safety of children traveling to flag football games in Southeast, Derek Floyd, a coach at Barry Farm Recreation Center in Ward 8, told the Post.

– Some teens are staying away from practices too, lest they become targets because “people know where they are,” he says.

New acting police chief Pamela Smith said on WAMU radio that the force is “very, very intentional” about where officers are deployed, given the Metropolitan Police Department is “down approximately 500 officers.”

Final thoughts: D.C.—like any communist/globalist-run city in America—has become a No-Go Zone. I’ve heard Trump has plans for dispersing much of what he does not eliminate from the federal government to locations throughout the country. But still, I’m curious to see how he will tackle the mental illness of liberalism.
