After nine years of his liberal leadership, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Canadian government has descended into complete chaos.
This from thepatriotjournal.com.
Now, for Trudeau the writing may finally be on the wall. He has dodged scandal after scandal over the years, even managing to survive images of him wearing blackface surfacing. Given how woke Trudeau and his party are, overcoming that controversy was no easy task.
This time, however, wiggling out of his current trouble is not likely. Indeed, it seems that Trudeau’s days of power and relevancy are numbered.
From Daily Mail:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on the brink of resigning as his liberal government crumbles around him, according to CTV News.
Trudeau, 52, is ‘considering his options as leader’, sources have told the broadcaster, while his Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland revealed she will quit. Freeland quit on Monday after clashing with Trudeau on issues including how to handle possible U.S. tariffs, dealing a huge blow to an already unpopular government.
In a stinging resignation letter, Freeland dismissed Trudeau’s push for increased spending as a political gimmick that could hurt Ottawa’s ability to deal with the 25 percent import tariffs U.S. President-elect Donald Trump says he will impose. Freeland said she was quitting in the wake of a meeting last Friday with Trudeau, who asked her to take on a lesser post after the two had argued for weeks over spending.
During this meeting, Trudeau allegedly asked Freeland to be his minister without portfolio. This role deals with Canada-U.S. relations in name only, according to one liberal source. It would be a major devotion, and Freeland viewed it as a slap in the face.
NOTE: Freeland had been a key ally for Trudeau for years prior to this blowup.
President-elect Donald Trump was quick to celebrate Freeland’s exit.
He said:
The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau.
Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed!!!
Back in Canada, however, the tensions have only risen for Trudeau.
New Democrats party leader Jagmeet Singh said:
I’m calling on Justin Trudeau to resign. He has to go.
Hours before that, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre weighed in on the increasingly chaotic situation.
We cannot accept this kind of chaos, division, weakness, while we’re staring down the barrel of a 25% tariff from our biggest trading partner … we simply cannot go on like this.
The New Democrats and the Conservatives are the two opposition parties to the Liberal Party in Canada. If they unite against Trudeau with a vote of no confidence, they could oust him from his prime minister role themselves. They will not have the chance to vote on this until January at the earliest, however.
Regardless of what happens, this is undoubtedly the most precarious position that Trudeau has been in since he came to power in November of 2015. In the end, Trudeau might want to put himself out of his misery and resign.
