The deceptively named American Civil Liberties Union continued its mission to defend the nonexistent rights of illegal aliens by suing an New Hampshire police department for arresting a man involved in a sexual assault and turning him over to immigration officials. It is apparently the ACLU’s official position that illegal immigrants have a Constitutional right to avoid arrest for crimes they commit, which is another way of saying these liberal agitators are out of there minds.
25-year-old Bashar Awawdeh is from Jordan and overstayed his Visa. He tried marrying an American woman to gain legal residency status, but that never happened and he is in the US illegally. On August 10, at a convenience store where he works in Exeter, NH, he was involved in an incident where a female customer was grabbed and forcibly kissed. It’s unclear if Awawdeh was the sexual assaulter or if it was another employee.
During questioning from responding officers, Awawdeh freely admitted to the Exeter police that he had overstayed his Visa and was in this country illegally. With that, the cops arrested him and then turned him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Seacoast Online reports that the ACLU is now suing the Exeter Police Department for violating Awawdeh’s 4th Amendment right against unlawful search and seizure.
“It’s clear in the law and if you look at court decisions state and local police do not have the authority to stop, search, detain or arrest individuals suspected of being undocumented. Being undocumented itself is not a crime,” said ACLU-NH legal director Gilles Bissonnette.
Boy, those nuts at the ACLU sure don’t know much about the law, do they? Being in this country illegally is most certainly a crime. You can tell that just from the word “illegally.” If it wasn’t a crime, they’d call it something else like: being in this country legally.
“When local police departments detain individuals simply due to their alleged undocumented status, they create an environment where these individuals — including victims of domestic violence — are afraid to call for help and report crimes. Local police departments need to be accessible to all members of the public, regardless of their legal status, to ensure public safety. This is what this lawsuit hopes to achieve,” said Bissonnette.
What about victims of sexual assault? It’s important to remember that police were investigating a possible sexual assault and that’s why they were questioning Awawdeh.
The ACLU is trying to claim that the Exeter police had no reason to question Awawdeh and therefore any information about a crime, in this case legal residency status, should be dismissed. Again, police had reason to question Awawdeh and he freely admitted to committing a crime, so he was arrested.
New Hampshire is not a sanctuary state and Exeter is not a sanctuary city. In fact, the Exeter Police Department has an agreement to cooperate with ICE, which is yet another reason why arresting Awawdeh is not a violation of the rights that he doesn’t even have as an illegal immigrant.
In related news, the ACLU is opposing Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination because a woman has accused him of sexual misconduct without offering even a whiff of proof. If we put these two things together, here is what the ACLU stands for: An illegal immigrant involved in a sexual assault has the right to avoid arrest and detention for a crime while an American citizen has no right to due process to defend against a baseless claim of sexual assault.
Like I said, this organization has a very deceptive name. They don’t represent Americans, and have no idea what civil liberties are. They don’t even qualify as a union as the operate more like a crime syndicate or cartel.
