Georgia Governor Candidate Stacey Abrams Rebrands Gun Confiscation As ‘A Conversation’

Liberals have all kinds of euphemisms for the the horrible things they support so they don’t sound so horrible. They call killing unborn babies “women’s health care.” They refer to not accepting the results of a free and fair election “protecting democracy.” They say curb-stomping our Constitutional rights is “commonsense safety.” Georgia candidate for governor Stacey Abrams wanted in on the action so she’s rebranded the government confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens as a “conversation.” See, suddenly the forced disarmament of the American people doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

Abrams was on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, and weirdly enough host Jake Tapper was trying to get her to admit that she wants to rip guns out of the hands of Georgia citizens.

“Let’s talk about gun policy. When you were a state lawmaker in 2016, you co-sponsored a bill that would have allowed Georgia state authorities to take away so-called assault weapons from current gun owners. Most similar bans would grandfather in existing weapons of that sort. Semi-automatic rifles that are called assault weapons. So is that your current position, that law-abiding gun owners in Georgia should have to give up those weapons, if authorities deem it necessary?” Tapper asked.

Get ready for a seriously bullshit answer:

“In the state of Georgia you introduce legislation to start conversations. I am happy to work with the legislature to figure out how we make an assault weapons ban work. But what I fundamentally believe is that we have to have common sense gun safety legislation. I am someone who supports the Second Amendment, who knows how to shoot, who knows how hunt, but I believe that our responsibility is to make sure that the most vulnerable in our society do not face those who are irresponsible with their weapons,” said Abrams.

Apparently in Georgia lawmakers don’t introduce legislation to pass laws, they do it just to shoot the breeze, like talking about the weather or how lame The Walking Dead has gotten.

But at least she supports the 2nd Amendment, as she demonstrated here:

“AR-15s are not necessary on our streets. Semi-automatic weapons have to be put under a certain level of responsible control,” said Abrams.

Tapper wasn’t having it. He again pressed Abrams to admit that she’s literally a gun-grabber.

“Well, just to be clear, you were one of six co-sponsors of this bill, House Bill 731, introduced January 11th, 2016. Not that long ago. Your cosponsor told reporters that the law, quote, would require gun owners of these particular models to turn their guns in,” said Tapper.

And Abrams had even more BS.

“And again, my point is this. The legislation introduced was the beginning of a conversation. I am absolutely certain that were we to pass this in Georgia, we would have a conversation about grandfathering in, about whether or not people would turn their guns in, whether there would be buybacks. There are a number of approaches to take to accomplish this goal,” Abrams said.

Oh, so it’s kind of like ObamaCare in that you have to pass the law to find out what it does. Here Abrams wants us to believe that this gun control law that would require law-abiding people to turn their guns in or have them confiscated would be open for discussion after it passed.

Tapper must have eaten his Wheaties this morning, because he was not going to let Abrams get away with this crap.

“Well, just to be clear here, I’m just trying to understand. So you don’t support the actual legislation, you just support having a conversation about it?” asked Tapper.

“No, what I’ve said is, legislation in the state legislature is about starting the conversation. Very few pieces of the legislation are introduced and come out the same way they go in. That’s the process of making the law. My mission in 2016 was to be a part of the conversation. I believe that we have to ban assault weapons in the state of Georgia. But what I’m saying is, as part of my leadership, I’m going to work across the aisle, and we’re going to have a conversation about how we accomplish this,” explained Abrams.

In other words, yes, Abrams supports a semi-automatic weapons ban that includes forfeiture and confiscation of weapons owned by law-abiding people. She however doesn’t want the gun rights supporting voters of Georgia to know that she’s coming for their guns if they put her in office.

I’m sure she wants there to have a conversation on gun confiscation and it goes something like this: “Surrender your weapons or we’ll blow your head off!”
