Jeff ‘Flakey’ Pushes Bill To Immunize Mueller Against Accountability

Republican Senator Jeff Flake may be on his way out of office but he is spending his remaining days waging his personal war against President Trump, a man who he despises and who he is likely jealous of for some bizarre psychological reason.

The Arizonan’s membership in the Never Trumper club and constant criticism of the president of his own party – including comparing Trump to Joseph Stalin – sent his poll numbers plunging to the point where he had zero chance at winning reelection.

The Democrats were able to win control of Flake’s seat in the midterms but many would say that even far-left radical Kyrsten Sinema is an improvement over the pride of Snowflake, AZ and a man who Trump has ridiculed as “Jeff Flakey” during their two years of skirmishes.

Flake is determined to cement his legacy by pushing a bill to protect the unaccountable rogue special counsel Robert Mueller from being fired and has already torpedoed the confirmation of conservative federal judges in a blow to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Trump.

With the anti-Trump establishment having deemed any idea that Mueller would be subjected to even minimal oversight to be heresy, Flake continues to hit the media circuit to push his bill to erect a firewall between Trump and Mueller.

Via Real Clear Politics, “Sen. Jeff Flake: We Need To Protect Mueller”:

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) told CNN’s Poppy Harlow in an interview Friday that if he had run for re-election, he “probably” could not have taken a stand on judicial votes to protect special counsel Robert Mueller but it is important to do so.

He said that the firing of Jeff Sessions as attorney general highlights the need for the Senate to take action to protect the role of special counsel Robert Mueller. “When the report is ultimately issued [acting Attorney General] Matt Whitaker can decide what Congress sees and what it doesn’t see,” Flake said. “That is important and we think it ought to be handled by somebody who has at least been confirmed by the Senate.”

“I don’t know how we can be so sanguine over what is happening over at the Department of Justice,” he also said. “What will really matter is if there are emails or documentary evidence that somebody lied to Congress.”

Flake also claims that there is rock solid support for the Mueller bill – likely he and few of his Never Trump friends along with all of the Democrats.

Via The Hill, “Flake: Mueller bill has votes to pass Senate”:

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said Friday that he believes legislation protecting special counsel Robert Mueller could pass the Senate, if Republican leadership would agree to bring it up for a vote.

“I do believe the votes are there on the floor if we can just get a vote, and that’s what I’m calling, let’s just have a vote,” Flake told CNN, asked about a measure that would protect Mueller from being fired without good cause.

The legislation — crafted by Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) — has languished for months after it passed out the Judiciary Committee. Republican leadership argues it isn’t necessary because President Trump, they believe, will not try to interfere with or fire Mueller.

“I don’t know how we can be sanguine about what’s going on over at the Department of Justice in terms of the Mueller probe. It’s important to protect it,” Flake added on Friday.

The renewed push for legislation that is not in the best interests of America and will come back to haunt this nation for long after Trump is gone takes place as Mueller has cut a deal with the cheese-eating rat Trump’s ex-lawyer Michael Cohen who is expected to be the star witness when the House tribunals kick off after the new Congress is sworn in next month.

Trump could, of course, veto any such bill but the Democrats would immediately pounce on such a move as obstruction of justice.
