David Webb is a Fox Nation host and columnist for The Hill and Breitbart. He is conservative and also happens to be black. On his Sirius XM radio call-in show he was talking to CNN legal analyst Areva Martin, who proceed to accuse Webb of having “white privilege” because everyone knows that conservatives are white and didn’t achieve their success through hard work. CNN just keeps finding new ways to be fake news, don’t they?
Obviously due to the nature of a radio call-in show, Martin couldn’t see Webb, but she probably should have done a little research before going on the show. The two were discussing diversity in the media when Webb triggered Martin’s stupidity with this:
“I never considered my color the issue. I considered my qualifications the issue,” said Webb.
“Well, David, that’s a whole other long conversation about white privilege, the things that you have the privilege of doing that people of color don’t have the privilege of…” replied Martin.
Webb must have been busting up with laughter inside, but he decided to play along:
“How do I have the privilege of white privilege?” Webb interrupted.
“David, by virtue of being a white male, you have white privilege,” said Martin smugly.
Now wait for it…
“Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should have been better prepped. I’m black … See, you went to white privilege. This is the falsehood in this. You went immediately with an assumption … You’re talking to a black man who started out in rock radio in Boston, who crossed the paths into hip-hop, rebuilding one of the greatest black stations in America, and went on to work for Fox News, where I’m told apparently blacks aren’t supposed to work, but yet you come with this assumption and you go to white privilege. That’s actually insulting!” Webb said.
At this point, an apology would be in order, but you know that ain’t how liberals roll.
“My people gave me wrong information,” said Martin.
Yeah, blame your stunning ignorance on your people. Is there anyone at CNN who isn’t completely full of shit? The sad thing is, this isn’t even the dumbest thing to come out of anyone at CNN this week and it’s only Tuesday.
And really, this was incredibly racist on Martin’s part. She assumed that because Webb is an accomplished well-spoken conservative man that he must be white. Prejudice is the act of pre-judging someone and Martin certainly did that here.
“Misgendering” a transgender person would get someone banned from all social media platforms and fired from any media job. Will Areva Martin face any consequences for “misracing” David Webb? Definitely not because Martin is on the left side of things. If a conservative had mistaken the race of a liberal, that would be an outrage, but this falls under the protection of the “liberal privilege” to be horrible.
Areva Martin is a woman of color and if Webb had accused her of white privilege the world would have come to an end because it would have ben the single most offensive thing that ever happened. Luckily, Webb isn’t an idiot and he knows who the hell he’s talking to and what the hell he’s talking about.
