Sucks To Be BuzzFeed; Even SNL Is Ripping On Them Now

These may be dark and perilous times but you can’t beat the entertainment, especially when the rats start to eat each other….

Times are not good for BuzzFeed after the trashy political news and gossip site that serves as a dumping ground for fake news thoroughly botched a story that was hailed as the “smoking gun” that would lead to President Trump’s impeachment.

The story which claimed that the president’s former attorney Michael Cohen – who now serves as special counsel Robert Mueller’s pet rat – had been personally directed by Trump to lie to Congress over a proposed Moscow real estate project was jumped on by a bloodthirsty media that promoted it nonstop for an entire day until it was smacked down as more fake news.

And it was one helluva smackdown too because it came directly from Mueller’s office which left the media with egg dripping from their faces and BuzzFeed in an existential crisis thanks to shoddy reportage by a guy with a history that should have been a flashing red light to any prospective employer.

Rather than admit their own error in rushing to judgment on the story due to an obsession with taking Trump down, big media instead is throwing BuzzFeed under the bus, calling into question whether anything that they publish outside of cat videos will ever be taken seriously again.

How bad is it for BuzzFeed?

Even the virulent Trump haters at NBC’s flagship “Saturday Night Live” are now mocking them with “Weekend Update” hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost unloading last night.

Via NewsMax, “‘SNL’ Rips BuzzFeed ‘Fake News’ Report Hitting Trump”:

“BuzzFeed published a story that said that Robert Mueller had evidence of Trump committing an impeachable crime, but the details were so sketchy that even Mueller’s team had to be like, ‘Sorry, fake news,'” “SNL” Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said. “How disappointing was that?

“You know how many suburban moms had to retract their group text to the family reading, ‘We got him!'”

Co-host Michael Che advised BuzzFeed to stay in its lane: “memes and lists.”

“Look, BuzzFeed, I think it’s great – we all think it’s great that you want to help, but this isn’t really what we need from you,” Che said. “Y’all at BuzzFeed, you do memes and lists.

“Everybody got that aunt who has roaches and every Thanksgiving she’s like, ‘what should I bring?’ And we are like ‘um, ice. You bring the ice, because we don’t want to pick ‘raisins’ out of the turkey.’

“That’s you, BuzzFeed. You bring the ice.

When you’ve lost Saturday Night Live you just may be in trouble – BIGLY.

If you take a shot at the king, you’d better not miss or you will suffer the consequences as BuzzFeed is now finding out.

Despite being reduced to a mockery, BuzzFeed continues to double-down on their fake news fiasco by defending Jason Leopold, one of the two “reporters” behind their scoop.

However, it’s just damage control because to this day, BuzzFeed is refusing to provide critical information on the source for their bombshell and the documents that it cited causing lasting damage to the brand and it’s all self-inflicted.

Will BuzzFeed survive?

It depends on whether how short that the memory of the mainstream media is because chances are good that they can ride out the storm by laying low until they are able to hoodwink the punditry and press with whatever the next big fake news fairy tale that they publish will be.
