In what is considered a formality, the Speaker of the House invites the President to speak before Congress and deliver the State of the Union Address every year. Last week Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested that the speech should be postponed until the government is reopened and President Trump hit back by cancelling the democrats’ photo-op overseas trip, also citing the government shutdown. Today, Pelosi officially disinvited Trump from delivering the SOTU and now we just have to sit back and wait for whatever hilarious thing the President will do in retaliation.
Earlier today President Trump sent this letter to Pelosi saying he was accepting her SOTU invite:
Dear Madam Speaker:
Thank you for your letter of January 3, 2019, sent to me after the long Shutdown began, inviting me to address the Nation on January 29th as to the State of the Union. As you know, I had already accepted your kind invitation, however, I then received another letter from you dated January 16th, 2019, wherein you expressed concerns regarding security during the State of the Union Address due to the Shutdown. Even prior to asking, I was contacted by the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service to explain that there would be absolutely no problem regarding security with respect to the event. They have since confirmed this publicly.
Accordingly, there are no security concerns regarding the State of the Union Address. Therefore, I will be honoring your invitation, and fulfilling my Constitutional duty, to deliver important information to the people and Congress of the United States of America regarding the State of our Union.
I look forward to seeing you on the evening on January 29th in the Chamber of the House of Representatives. It would be so very sad for our Country if the State of the Union were not delivered on time, on schedule, and very importantly, on location!

So Pelosi turned around and fired off this letter in response:
Dear Mr. President:
When I extended an invitation on January 3rd for you to deliver the State of the Union address, it was on the mutually agreed upon date, January 29th. At that time, there was no thought that the government would still be shut down.
In my further correspondence of January 16th, I said we should work together to find a mutually agreeable date when government has re-opened and I hope that we can still do that.
I am writing to inform you that the House of Representatives will not consider a concurrent resolution authorizing the President’s State of the Union address in the House Chamber until government has opened.
Again, I look forward to welcoming you to the House on a mutually agreeable date for this address when government has been opened.

“The State of the Union speech has been canceled because she doesn’t want to hear the truth. She’s afraid of the truth,” Trump said of Pelosi at a White House event.
According to Fox News the White House knew Pelosi was going to pull this shit and has already made other plans:
Reacting to Pelosi’s letter, Trump told reporters at the White House “we’ll do something in the alternative,” suggesting a speech of some kind will still happen next week.
In recent days though, the White House has been readying a Plan B in case Pelosi moved to block the speech in the House chamber. White House officials told Fox News they essentially were preparing for two tracks for next week’s speech. The preferred track is an address, as per custom, at the Capitol. The second track is a backup plan for a speech outside of Washington, D.C.
I think it would be hilarious of Trump threw a big rally at an arena to deliver the State of the Union: MAGA hats as far as the eye can see and chants of “build the wall, bitch!” It would be be much higher-profile than a usually SOTU and basically serve as a giant middle finger to Pelosi and the crybaby democrats.
Whatever happens, this is just more bad optics for the democrats. They have the government shut down because they refuse to fund border security or even negotiate. They’re already coming off as scumbags for putting illegal immigrants above Americans and now they trying to silence the President of the United States. This can only end badly for the democrats.
Meanwhile, President Trump needs to find a funny way to strike back at Pelosi. Maybe he should sign an executive order banning Botox or impose an emergency tax on adult diapers. Hit her where it hurts the most.
