If faced with the specter of a crazed naked man aggressively rushing towards you and you shot him, a lot of people would consider that legitimate self-defense. Now arm the naked dude with a 9″ knife and it erases any possible doubts some might have had about being a justified shooting. And this is what we have in today’s episode. One Rony Parras-Mendez cast himself as the star of today’s show when he decided to charge an LAPD officer while buck naked.
VIDEO: Naked Man With Knife Gets Within Inches Of Officer Before Fatal Shooting
Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have released the bodycam video of an officer-involved shooting on New Year’s Eve that occurred after a naked man with a knife charged officers (video below).
LAPD officers responded to a 911 call reporting a screaming woman in the 13600-block of Vanowen Street at about 4 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2018, according to a press release from the police department.
Bodycam video showed that when they arrived on the scene, they located the suspect’s apartment and knocked on the door.
Once they knocked, chaos ensued inside, the video showed.
“Police department!” LAPD Officer Ko Kim announced after the knock.
Suddenly, there was a sound of glass smashing and screaming inside the apartment, the video showed.
“Come on now,” the man behind the door snarled. “I am going to kill you.”
It sounded as though the man were attacking someone inside the apartment.
“Oh yeah baby,” the same man yelled.
The video showed the officers backing a away from the door before it was opened by a naked man.
At which point they should have shot him. I’m kidding, of course but they probably secretly wanted to. I mean who answers a door without clothes on? That’s just plain rude.
Rony Parras-Mendez, 18, appeared in the doorway holding a big knife in his hand, which he quickly dropped.
Good restraint on the part of the officers here. Some might have shot the exhibitionist as soon as they saw he was armed with a knife and that would have caused problems for them. These two waited and gave the nudist every opportunity to comply.
“Let me see your hands,” both officers yelled at the naked man. Then they repeated the order multiple times.
The video showed that Parras-Mendez ignored officers’ commands and instead bent over to retrieve the blade, which was approximately nine inches in length, according to the LAPD press release.
Then, with the knife held in both hands, he charged Officer Kim, the video showed.
And now is the time to unload on nature boy. Officer Kim did just that.
Officer Kim opened fire and Parras-Mendez dropped to the floor in the corner of the hallway, the video showed.
He was declared dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department, according to the press release.
Prior to officers’ arrival on the scene, Parras-Mendez had assaulted a man at the apartment complex, according to LAPD.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No officers were injured during the incident, the press release said.
ABC 7 News reported that Parras-Mendez “had no history of mental health issues despite his erratic behavior that day.” Well, he certainly made up for lost time on that day.
