Another victim of the cultural cleansing shows that nobody is safe…
In yet another shameless example of how intolerant social justice zealots have been ruining sports, the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers have bowed to the social media hate mob and in doing so, brought disgrace upon the organization by erasing an American icon from their team history.
Over the weekend, the Flyers brass not only banned the playing of Kate Smith’s glorious rendition of “God Bless America” during the team’s home contests but also oversaw the tearing down of a statue of a woman who was instrumental in fundraising to fight Adolf Hitlers’ Germany during World War II.
Smith passed away in 1986 but not before being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan who honored her for her wartime efforts when her marathon radio performances brought in $600 million for the war effort.
Kate Smith was a true blue patriot who frequently performed for the troops and was a selfless champion for her county during times before simply expressing pro-American sentiment or wearing the wrong type of hat will have one smeared as a Nazi or worse.
The Flyers had long featured “God Bless America” at games from back in the days when the Broad Street Bullies terrorized opponents on the ice. Now thanks to a few malignant losers who dug through her entire history in order to find a lyric that they could then use to affix the scarlet letter of racism to her head and the Broad Street Wussies quickly surrendered rather than be called mean things on Twitter.
Smith’s anthem was banned and then for an added sucker punch, they ripped down the statue of Smith that stood at the popular XFINITY Live! dining and entertainment section and the former site of the legendary Spectrum Arena where the Flyers won their two Stanley Cups.

Via Philadelphia CBS affiliate CBS 3, “Kate Smith Statue Removed From Sports Complex Following Racism Allegations”:
The Flyers have removed the Kate Smith statue from the Sports Complex in South Philly following allegations of racism. The Flyers initially covered up the statue with a black drape after learning about the singer’s alleged history of racism on Friday.
They also announced they would stop using Smith’s recording of “God Bless America.”
“But in recent days, we learned that several of the songs Kate Smith performed in the 1930s include lyrics and sentiments that are incompatible with the values of our organization, and evoke painful and unacceptable themes,” the Flyers said in a statement.
“We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization,” the Flyers said in a statement. “As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith’s recording of ‘God Bless America’ from our library and covering up the statue that stands outside of our arena.”
The woman who raised $600 million to fight Nazis during World War II isn’t woke enough for today’s sports. Just insanely absurd. pic.twitter.com/gRIysobdTc

According to Smith’s obituary in the New York Times:
Everything about Kate Smith was outsized, including Miss Smith herself. She recorded almost 3,000 songs -more than any other popular performer. She introduced more songs than any other performer – over a thousand, of which 600 or so made the hit parade.
She made more than 15,000 radio broadcasts and, over the years, received more than 25 million fan letters. At the height of her career, during World War II, she repeatedly was named one of the three or four most popular women in America. No single show-business figure even approached her as a seller of War Bonds during World War II. In one 18-hour stint on the CBS radio network, Miss Smith sold $107 million worth of War Bonds, which were issued by the United States Government to finance the war effort. Her total for a series of marathon broadcasts was over $600 million.
It was two of those songs that added Smith to the growing list of casualties in the left’s war on statues.
Few alive today have even heard of “That’s Why Darkies Were Born” and “Pickaninny Heaven” but it was those songs that were unearthed by the outrage mob and with the ongoing hijacking of sports by insane social justice fanatics, Kate’s statue was doomed.

Jason Whitlock of the Speak For Yourself podcast has a good synopsis of this pathetically un-American travesty.

And who better than the inimitable Clay Travis of Outkick The Coverage to best sum it up:
I want you to think about this for a moment — what kind of person scours the recording history of a woman dead for over thirty years to complain about a song recording nearly 100 years old? Is that person a normal, sane and representative example of modern American life or is that person a pathetic loser crank obsessed with being a victim?
I think we all know the answer.
So why do we keep kowtowing to the worst people in our society?
The socialist fanatics who have been racking up victory after victory while they topple statues like ISIS or the Taliban will now be even more emboldened; especially after the venerable New York Yankees followed suit by banning “God Bless America” during the 7th inning stretch at Yankee Stadium.
It won’t be long until the totalitarian left comes for the statues of Ronald Reagan too and you know what? Nobody will stop them.
