It’s unclear why a man in Fremont California laid in wait in the dark of night to ambush a police officer in a passing vehicle, but that’s what he did. Indeed, he had a deep seated hatred for law enforcement. In February he stated to the Alameda Sheriff’s office that he “was going to get a gun and shoot the first cop he saw.” He also “scratched the word “PIG” into a BART police car.” He also had a long criminal history, but I think his real anger issues stemmed from his name . . . Michael Allen Felch. Yes, you heard me right . . . Felch. If you don’t know what felch means, Google it. It’s pretty gross.
Fremont PD releases body cam footage from officer-involved shooting this week
FREMONT (KRON) – The Fremont Police Department on Friday held a news conference and released body camera footage from the officer-involved shooting earlier this week.
Police say the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Michael Allen Felch of Fremont, allegedly fired shots at a marked patrol car occupied by an officer who was heading back to the department.
It happened Monday just before 11 p.m. on Civic Center Drive near the intersection of Washington West and Washington Hospital ER.
Police say the officer made a U-turn heading toward the gunfire after he realized shots were being fired at him.
Two other officers in the area responded to the radio call of shots fired.
In the video, you can see Felch on the ground, waving his arms. You can also see his gun on the ground next to him.
This shooting was not only justified but yielding some pretty good images of Felch writhing and convulsing as lead rips into his body. So let’s take a look. The good stuff starts at about 1:13.
Authorities say they ordered him to raise his arms and not reach for the gun, which he ignored. Felch then crawled toward the gun, picked it up and pointed it at the officers.
Officers then shot at him which caused him to fall to the ground. Yet, officials say he continued to move and ignored the officer’s commands.
More responding officers and a canine unit assisted in detaining Felch.
Felch was provided medical aid but died at the scene, according to officials.
A handgun was recovered under Felch’s torso, police say.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The officers involved have been identified as Ryan Lobue, who has 11 years of service with the department, James Taylor, who has 10 years, and the K9 officer Jennifer Allsup, who has 7 years.
The investigation is ongoing.
It’s my opinion Felch could have avoided this entire situation if he had merely changed his name earlier in life. Thus, he would have avoided all the unmerciful taunting and bullying he surely must have experienced that lead to his lashing out at police. But I’m no psychologist and he’s now a corpse, so it doesn’t really matter anymore, does it?
