Gun Control Group Calls For Ban On All Privately Owned Firearms

The Virginia Beach mass shooting was an inconvenient one for anti-gun democrats because the shooter used 2 legally purchased handguns, which didn’t support their gun control narrative. That didn’t stop them from saying we have to take action to stop shootings like that from happening in the future, but the reality is the only action that would have prevented VA Beach is if all firearms magically disappeared. One gun control group thinks that’s a real possibility and is calling for a ban on all private gun ownership.

Americans Against Gun Violence released a statement regarding the Virginia Beach shooting and it’s easily the dumbest take yet on the tragedy. After complaining that a local carnival went on as planned following the shooting and giving the VA beach chief of police shit for not coming up with a plan to stop similar tragedies, this gun control group got to what they see as the problem:

The reason for our extraordinarily high rate of gun violence is obvious. Our gun control laws are extraordinarily lax as compared with the laws in other high income democratic countries, and our rate of civilian gun ownership is extraordinarily high.

And the AAGV has a simple solution to this:

It is the position of Americans Against Gun Violence that the United States should adopt a complete ban on civilian ownership of all handguns and all automatic and semi-automatic rifles.

That’s nice. They seem to let us keep bolt-action and lever action rifles as well as shotguns. Nobody could possibly kill other people with a 12-gauge or a 30-30, right?

This group thinks they can get rid of rifles with no problem, but they say a little work needs to be done to ban handguns:

In order to ban handguns, we must first overturn the rogue 2008 Heller decision in which a narrow 5-4 majority of the Supreme Court reversed over two centuries of legal precedent, including four prior Supreme Court decisions, in ruling that the Second Amendment conferred an individual right to keep a handgun in the home.

None of the way they characterized the DC v. Heller case is remotely true, but why do liberals think Supreme Court decisions can be overturned? Who do they think overturns a SCOTUS decision? The Super-Supreme Court? Sorry, that’s not a real thing. Once the Supreme Court makes ruling, that’s it. The only recourse to change that is with a Constitutional Amendment.

For the record, the DC v. Heller decision reaffirmed that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes. It’s not a handgun decision, it covers all firearms “in common use” including rifles and even what liberals call “assault weapons.”

This is hardly the only problem with AAGV’s plan to disarm all Americans. Whether or not Heller exists, the 2nd Amendment is still there protecting our gun ownership rights. They would need to repeal the 2nd Amendment before they could start banning guns. Then, there would be the sticky issue of trying to get 400 million guns out of private citizen’s hands without triggering a civil war.

Just for shits and giggles, let’s pretend that this dumbass gun control group could get rid of the 2nd Amendment and peacefully disarm every law-abiding American. There’s still the issue of criminals. For some damn reason criminals simply will not obey the law. Illicit drugs are illegal and they are literally everywhere. Why does the AAGV think that banning guns would make them go away. Prohibitions don’t work and the black-market would happily pick up the slack to flood the streets with guns.

I was going to suggest this group drop the “violence” part of their name and just call themselves “Americans Against Guns” but their opposition to the 2nd American makes them decidedly unAmerican. In the future they should go by “Against Guns” as it’s more accurate to their mission and would save money on printing their t-shirts.
