I realize that in sanctuary places like California it can be confusing about what country it actually is, but thankfully one help neighbor reminded a family where they live. A Fresno-area family was flying a Mexican flag in front of their house and someone, possibly a freelance geographer, spay painted “USA” on their cars and driveway. They apparently didn’t get the clue and are still flying the flag. What we have here is a failure to communicate. Some people you just can’t reach.
The Silva family has lived in Fowler, CA near Fresno for 13 years. After all this time it must have dawned on them that they reside in the United States of America, even if California doesn’t quite feel like it. They apparently thought they were in Mexico or just hate the country that has actually given them every opportunity to succeed and thrive, so they put a big Mexican flag in front of their house.
As ABC13 reports, not everyone in the area shared in their Mexican pride. Jessica Silva said her son left the house for about an hour and came back to see that someone spray painted “USA” on both of their cars and the driveway. Presumably Jessica was home at the time the vandalism happened. Maybe she was blasting Mariachi music and didn’t hear it, I don’t know.
The family believes they were targeted because of the Mexican flag hanging in front of their house. If they recognize the flag as a vandalism magnet, I think it’s a fair question to ask why they would fly it.
Another good question would be, if they love Mexico so much, why the f*ck do they live here? I know the answer is because they can have a much better life in American than Mexico, but they obviously don’t appreciate what this country has done for them.
I have no idea if the Silva family are illegal immigrants, legal immigrants, naturalized American citizens, or natural born American citizens who are just dicks. What I do know is they are Mexican and refuse to assimilate to the culture of the country that has given them everything Mexico couldn’t.
If these clowns lived in Philadelphia and were flying a Dallas Cowboys flag, they would have been beaten into a coma. A little bit of spray paint seems like they got off light. When in Rome…don’t be an asshole.
My family heritage is Swedish and Irish, but I would never fly the flag of either of those countries in front of my house. I’m proud of my lineage, but I’m prouder to be an American. Also, let’s be honest, Ireland and Sweden are some goofy semi-socialist countries, but they are a million times better than Mexico. Still, I’m USA all the way.
Not that this is a real thing, but if for some reason I couldn’t make a go of it in the US and had to move to another country to find work, I wouldn’t be a jerk and throw my American flag in the face of the country that gave me the opportunity to succeed. I would also learn the language and customs of my adopted nation, but I’m cool like that.
With the Silva family saying they were targeted for their Mexican flag, they are clearly trying to get this classified as an act of hate. Nope. This was not a hate crime, just a friendly reminder that they live in the greatest country the world has ever known and should show a little appreciation to that fact.
