If someone walks up to a random person, shouts racial slurs and then punches him in the face, I think we can all agree that qualifies as a hate crime. If someone defends his daughter who is getting the crap beat out of her and shouts a racial slur, I think we can all agree that is not a hate crime. Well, all of us agree to that except the Crowley, Louisiana PD who charged a dad with a hate crime for stopping his daughter’s ex from beating the hell out of her on his front lawn.
KTVE reports that Jasmine Bourque was out Saturday night when her estranged boyfriend, Melvin Dugar started a verbal argument with her. the news doesn’t; say what race Duggar is, but Jasmine is white, despite the name.
Jasmine got in her car and tried to exit the situation when Duggar threw a brick at her car. The News reports that the brick hit her, not the car, so let’s assume he nailed her with a brick through the window. Jasmine accelerated and hit Duggar with her car, knocking him over. He doesn’t appear to have been injured by this.
Jasmine went to her home and Duggar followed on foot. In the front lawn the news says that a physical confrontation occurred, so let’s assume Duggar was beating the shit out of Jasmine. She is a woman who was trying to get away from an ex-boyfoend who hit her with a brick, so I think it’s safe to assume that he was the aggressor in this situation. He followed her home and he is male.
As Duggar was kicking the hell out of this woman, Jasmine’s father Cecil Bourque (pictured) came out to save his daughter. The news says that he hit Duggar with a hammer several times and yelled a racial slur. Duggar was hospitalized for his injuries.
I feel like the father did the right thing protecting his daughter and who cares if he said a racial slur? There was a grown man beating up his daughter. Whatever he did was completely justified.
Not according to the local police however. Check this bullshit out:
Jasmine Bourque was arrested and charged with one count attempted manslaughter and one count of domestic abuse battery.
Cecil Bourque was also arrested and charged with a hate crime and attempted manslaughter. His total bond was set at $35,000.
Duggar, the ex, hit Jasmine with a brick and then followed her home to physically assault her. The dad, came out to keep this piece of shit from killing his daughter and yet both the dad and the daughter are charged with attempted murder, plus the dad got hit with a hate crime charge. How does this make any sense at all?
I don’t have a daughter (thank God) but if I did and some asshole was beating on her in my front yard, I’d use every expletive and racial slur in the book, regardless of the assailant’s race. Actually, I’m pretty sure my Mossberg would be a part of this scenario and there wouldn’t be anyone alive to rat out my use of language, but you get the point. In a situation like this, it’s not hate that motivates a father saving his daughter.
Like I said, the news doesn’t list Duggar’s race, but I get the impression he is black. Dropping N-bombs isn’t cool, but this is a situation where it should be acceptable. What else would you call a black guy beating the shit out out of your daughter on the front lawn? An African American gentleman? No chance.
Duggar was charged with aggravated battery, two counts of domestic abuse battery, and one count of simple criminal damage to property, so clearly the cops recognize his role in this situation. He started the fight, he escalated the fight, and he alone is responsible for everything that happened to him. How is a dad protecting his daughter at fault in any way?
