Thanks liberal, I needed a good laugh today. Some douchebag who writes for uber-liberal Media Matters thought he was taking an insurmountable lead in the gun control argument by stating mater-of-factly that the “AR” in AR-15 stands for “assault rifle.” Even better, he contends the “15” means it was the 15th gun ever invented. This is a common leftist technique to present something so profoundly stupid that it can’t be intelligently argued.
Meet Andrew Lawrence, the deputy director of rapid response for Media Matters For America. He was worried that Americans have a right to own guns, so this was his rapid response to put an end to it:
Tucker Carlson doesn’t seem to understand that the “AR” in AR-15 stands for “Assault Rifle” pic.twitter.com/EwrE6BDqpw
— Andrew Lawrence (@ndrew_lawrence) July 13, 2019
The reason why Tucker Carlson doesn’t understand that is because it’s not true. “Assault rifle” is a term liberals made up decades after Eugene Stoner invented the AR-15 for ArmaLite, which is where the “AR” comes from: ArmaLite Rifle Model 15. The patten was then sold to Colt who modified the semi-automatic design to be full-auto and sold it to the US Military as the M-16.
When Twitter users pointed out to Lawrence that the “AR” most certainly does not stand for “assault rifle” this was his witty and informed response:
yes it does
— Andrew Lawrence (@ndrew_lawrence) July 13, 2019
And he added “proof” of his claim:
just spoke with a troop who confirmed that indeed, the “AR” stands for “Assault Rifle”
— Andrew Lawrence (@ndrew_lawrence) July 13, 2019
He spoke to a troop? What the f*ck does that even mean? Did he speak to a Girl Scout troop? They may be experts on cookies, but I doubt they have much knowledge of firearms history.
Things got even funnier with this exchange:
This only confirms that not only you are an idiot, but the people you know are idiots also. AR in AR-15 stands for ARmalite. The AR-5 for instance was a bolt action rifle.https://t.co/O4kzGvyKbO

nope im sorry it stands for “Assault Rifle” I just spoke with a troop who confirmed this to me. furthermore the 15 stands for the 15th gun invented (also confirmed by a troop) so the AR-5 was the 5th gun invented. check your facts
— Andrew Lawrence (@ndrew_lawrence) July 13, 2019
Check your facts? There were literally thousands of guns and models invented before the AR-15 came around in 1956. I guess using this logic the M-1 Garand was the first gun ever invented, predating the blunderbuss and the flint-lock. It’s hard to believe we won WWII with such ancient technology.
I was able to contact this “troop” source, and while he did say Lawrence was mistaken about the meaning of “AR” he gave me these other explanations for common firearm anagrams:
AK-47: American Killer, kills 47 capitalists with every trigger pull.
Ruger GP-100: Get Perforated 100 times.
Walther PPK: Pew Pew Kill.
Heckler & Koch HK416: Hunter/Killer with a 416-round magazine.
Colt .45: This is actually malt liquor, yo.
Glock 17: Unpronounceable German anagram that roughly translated means: No Safety, Don’t Shoot Yourself In The Dick.
S&W Model 29: Shot And Wasted, the 29 represents your chances of getting lucky.
SKS: Slowly Killing Suckers.
Tech 9: Terribly Engineered Cheap Handgun worth approximately $9.
Browning BAR: Bad Ass Rifle.
Mossberg 500: A 500 ft. Mountain covered in dense mats of green stuff.
Springfield Armory EMP: Electro-Magnetic Pulse weapon that can take down the grid.
FN SCAR: F*cking Nuclear SuperCalifragilisticexpiAlidocious Rifle.
If I wanted to make an argument against abortion and I thought babies were brought by the stork or popped out of women’s buttholes, nobody would take me seriously. Why then does the liberal media give a platform to anti-gunners who display the same level of ignorance concerning firearms? The answer is because the liberal media is just as ignorant and has an anti-gun agenda that suffers when actual facts are presented.
