Following the school shooting in Parkland Florida, Dick’s Sporting Goods lived up to their name and stopped selling selling semi-automatic rifles that hysterical liberals call “assault rifles.” The move was devastating to the retailer, costing the company millions in sales as gun owners and 2nd Amendment supporters took their business elsewhere. Now the CEO wants to finish off what’s left of the company by bragging about destroying $5 million in “assault rifle” inventory.
Ed Stack is the CEO of Dick’s and he too lives up to the company’s name. In addition to banning sales of semi-automatic rifles, he hired lobbyists to pester Congress into passing unconstitutional gun control laws. CBS interviewed this kook because they think his terrible leadership and anti-gun activism is courageous.
Things started off with an obvious lie. Stack claims that his company stopped selling AR-15’s following the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting, but then for some reason Dick’s was still selling them up until 2018.
As Dick’s grew, it became one of the biggest sellers of firearms. Until, that is, 2012, when a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
“All we were going to do was just take it off the shelf and not say anything,” said Stack.
The “it” he’s talking about is the AR-15, a lightweight semi-automatic modern sporting rifle similar to the one used in the Sandy Hook massacre. He ordered all of them be removed from every Dick’s Sporting Goods store across the country.
“We probably get a little bit of a backlash, but we didn’t expect to get what we got. All this about, you know, how we were anti-Second Amendment, you know, ‘we don’t believe in the Constitution,’ and none of that could be further from the truth. We just didn’t want to sell the assault-style weapons that could inflict that kind of damage,” Stack said.
Okay, if he stopped selling AR-15s in 2012, how come he again stopped selling them in 2018? After the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in 2018 Dick’s once again stopped selling AR-15s.
The second time around, Stack decided he was going to also destroy all of the inventory his stores had on hand.
On top of that, the assault-style rifles he still had in stock – about $5 million worth of inventory – he turned into scrap metal.
“I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,'” said Stack.
That’s actually chump change compared to the hit his company took. Stack estimated that Dick’s lost $250 million in the year and a half since they became the anti-Second Amendment sporting goods store.
But wait, it gets dumber. Stack decided to stop selling AR-15s, losing his company a quarter of a billion dollars, because the Parkland School shooter had bought a shotgun gun from Dick’s.
“We found out that we sold this kid a shotgun. That’s when I said, ‘We’re done,” said Stack.
“Even though that wasn’t the gun he used?” CBS asked.
“Even though it wasn’t the gun he used. It could have been,” Stack said.
That’s brilliant: Mass shooter buys a shotgun from Dick’s, uses an AR-15 purchased from another store for mass shooting, and Dick’s stops selling AR-15s but continues to sell shotguns. Oh, and the company tanked because of this.
Socialists like Bernie Sanders and AOC love to complain that CEOs make way more money than fry cooks and the easy counter to that argument is that CEOs are smarter, more educated, more quailed, and have more responsibility than fry cooks, hence the pay disparity. Here’s a CEO on par with a fry cook.
While it’s nuts that Stack gave the 2nd Amendment the shaft by sacking semi-automatic rifle sales, Dick’s still sells balls, which is something their CEO is lacking.
