Democrats basically make 2 kinds of demands: 1) they demand unrealistic things like “free” health care, housing, and college and 2) they demand things that already exist like background checks and a bumpstock ban. The first way is to trick people into thinking they are fighting for them and the second way is to trick people into think they get results. Bernie Sanders is running for president mostly on the first way, but he threw in a second way yesterday demanding that 18-year-olds be allowed to vote. Since that’s already a reality, he can now claim victory.
Here’s a real tweet sent by a fake American:
If you’re 18, you should have the right to vote. End of discussion. #DemDebate

It’s a good thing he ended the discussion because someone might point out that 18-year-olds already have a right to vote. I know this because when I turned 18, I registered for selective service and to vote. Later that same year, while I was still 18, I voted in my first election.
I also know that 18-year-olds can vote because I’m vaguely familiar with the U.S Constitution, something Senator Sanders has apparently never heard of before. There’s this Amendment, I believe it’s the 26th, and it was passed and ratified in 1971, when Sanders was a spry 85-year-old, which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18:
The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
18-year-olds have been able to vote for 48 years.
18-year-olds have been able to vote since…
…Richard Nixon was in his first term.
…The Vietnam War was still going.
…”Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night was a #1 hit.
…All in the Family was the biggest show on TV.
…Patton won an Oscar for best picture.
…the Attica Prison riots.
…Bernie Sanders became an unemployed career politician.
As a U.S. Senator, Bernie took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, so why is it that he doesn’t know what’s in it? Spoiler Alert: there’s nothing in the Constitution that grants redistribution of wealth or socialism powers to the U.S. Government.
Is Bernie demanding that 18-year-olds be allowed to vote because he’s looking for an easy win or due to his sheer ignorance? I think it’s a third thing: he’s ancient mind has finally short-circuited.
He seems to have an unnatural obsession with the number 18. His Twitter time line is littered with the number:
Only 18% of families headed by single moms have economic security. That is unacceptable.

In the United States, a prescription drug shot up in price from $18 a pill to $750 a pill, literally overnight.https://t.co/eaVW42jdn2

If you want to be part of a movement to transform America, which doesn’t have a super PAC, whose average contribution is just $18, chip in to our campaign tonight. #DemDebate https://t.co/muMLwNWJ0W

It is an outrage that throughout the history of this country, presidential administrations have been filled with wealthy campaign contributors.
Here’s my commitment: I will fill my administration with my donors—the working class of this country who give an average of $18 apiece. https://t.co/BMcSdEk5Rh

Wow, that last one sounds great, doesn’t it? He’s going to fill his cabinet with poor dumb people who have no experience in anything. What could possibly go wrong?
As you can see, 18 is the only number Bernie can remember at this point so that’s why he’s demanding 18-year-olds be allowed to vote. If that number was 55, he be demanding that Sammy Hagar be allowed to vote and if the number was 69, we’d all be throwing up right now.
