WEARE, N.H. —
The Attorney General’s Office has released its final report on an officer-involved shooting that happened in Weare on Aug. 1.Officials said a police officer was hurt and the suspect took his own life.
The shooting started as a domestic dispute and ended in gunfire. The Attorney General’s Office released body cam recordings of that morning.
The footage provided a chilling, firsthand view of what happened during the shooting. Sgt. Austin Maguire and Officer Paul Lewis were called to the home of Jeffrey Clough-Garvin for a domestic dispute.
Here’s a picture of Clough-Garvin. It was taken from his obituary page so of course it portrays him as a cat loving family man. And maybe he was sometimes. But he was also a thug who tried to kill cops.
Clough-Garvin’s wife was frantic as she met officers at the door.
“Guys, he’s going to shoot your or he’s going to shoot himself. I’m scared. I don’t want to be here,” she said.
And these are the brass balls that police officers must possess. The creep’s wife said he would shoot them, and yet they muster the courage to enter the dwelling of which they have no idea of the layout. The thug however, knows every inch of the house. Advantage . . . thug.
Maguire and Lewis enter the home where they are met by Clough-Garvin, armed with a gun, seen in the footage highlighted in red.
Moments later, shots are fired.
According to the AG’s Office, fearing for his own safety, Maguire fired at Clough-Garvin first, shooting him three times.
Clough-Garvin returned fire.
An autopsy also showed it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest that caused Clough-Garvin’s death.
Maguire was not hurt in the exchange, but Lewis was shot twice in the arm. He is still recovering from those injures.
There’s actually five videos for you to watch in this episode. Here they all are:
Maguire is back on the job. Lewis is on administrative duties while he goes through therapy for his arm. Officials said Clough-Garvin’s wife administered aid to Lewis during the shooting.
Thug dead, officer will be ok. Pretty good ending. But the thug hit three times and not killed? Let the inevitable caliber vs. shot placement debates begin. 😉
