Something weird is going on over at Politico. The normally liberal news source has now devolved into a socialist fan fiction site. In two subsequent days they’ve written pieces about how Bernie Sanders is going to be president followed closely by an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez presidency. As if that wasn’t already laugh-out-loud funny, they back this fantasy up with exactly zero facts.
Yesterday Politico ran this piece of garbage: Democratic insiders: Bernie could win the nomination
The interesting thing about that Bernie piece is that nowhere in the article does any democratic insider say they believe Sanders stands a chance at winning the democratic party nomination. Feel free to read it. There is nothing that comes close to supporting the claim in the headline.
Today, Politico upped their socialist propaganda with this: AOC for president? The buzz has begun
This too fails to live up to the promise of the headline. In the entire article, they found exactly 3 nobodies who are juiced up for AOC:
“The future of the Democratic Party is not Pete Buttigieg. It’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She has gripped the attention of fellow millennials across the country. The Green New Deal has changed the conversation on environmental action in the Democratic Party,” said Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, president of the California Young Democrats.
This insignificant person doesn’t even say AOC should run for president, just that she’s the future of the democratic party.
To prove there’s real buzz for an AOC presidency, Politico dropped this important sounding thing:
While the two democratic socialists are hyperfocused on 2020, some political operatives see their joint appearances as also laying the groundwork for a possible Ocasio-Cortez bid one day, purposefully or not. They’ve shown that she can excite Democrats in critical early-voting states.
And then we find out who these “political operatives” are:
Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez’s fans have also begun thinking about AOC 2024 or 2028. At their rally in Los Angeles, chiropractor Samuel Aguilera predicted that Ocasio-Cortez will eventually run for the White House: “In fact, I’m excited about that. She’s intelligent. I’ve got three daughters, and I’m excited that she’s opening up our opportunities for women.” Another audience member at the event shouted “Ocasio-Cortez 2020!” as she spoke.
You got that? A chiropractor and an unidentified audience member are the sum total of the “buzz” surrounding AOC running for president.
Having failed to establish there is buzz for AOC, Politico then beclowned themselves further by trying to make it seem liked she’d have a genuine shot. Check out this statement from former Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez aide Waleed Shahid:
“AOC is popular among many diverse constituencies in the Democratic base, and particularly among unlikely voters,” Shahid said.
So she’s popular with people who probably won’t vote? Don’t you kind of need people who actually vote to support you? Especially if your goal is to win an election?
Politico only sees one problem in the otherwise guaranteed AOC presidency:
She would have to reckon as well with the fact that Republicans are already putting in the work of driving down her favorability rating, much as they did to Hillary Clinton over several decades.
If only AOC could figure out a way to stop Republicans from using her exact words to point out how dangerously stupid she is, she’s a shoe-in for president in 8 years.
Taken together, these 2 articles have Politico predicting Bernie in 2020 and AOC in 2024, which is as insane as it sounds. The United States will never be socialist and we sure as hell ain’t electing 2 commies in a row. If this is Politico’s attempt at satire, it’s a failure.
