California Senator, assault weapons ban aficionado, and Chinese spy enabler Dianne Feinstein my be leaning toward acquitting President Trump in the Senate impeachment trial. When you’ve lost a far-left kook like this, you’ve truly failed. Nice job, Shifty. It looks like Adam Schiff and the House democrats presented such a weak case that even the queen of California liberalism is having a hard time voting to remove Trump from office.
Here’s something Nancy Pelosi won’t like from the LA Times:
Feinstein says she’s a maybe on acquitting Trump as his defense team ends impeachment arguments
Just after President Trump’s defense lawyers ended arguments in their Senate trial Tuesday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein suggested she could vote to acquit him, despite serious concerns about his character.
“Nine months left to go, the people should judge. We are a republic, we are based on the will of the people — the people should judge. That was my view and it still is my view,” said Feinstein.
Still, she indicated that arguments in the trial about Trump’s character and fitness for office had left her undecided. “What changed my opinion as this went on,” she said, is a realization that “impeachment isn’t about one offense. It’s really about the character and ability and physical and mental fitness of the individual to serve the people, not themselves.”
Asked whether she would ultimately vote to acquit, she demurred, saying, “We’re not finished.”
Feinstein told reporters that her office had received roughly 125,000 letters in support of the impeachment last week, and about 30,000 against it. “There is substantial weight to this,” she said, “and the question is: Is it enough to cast this vote?”
That sure sounds different than the “We have to get rid of Trump before he destroys the universe” rhetoric from her crazy democratic colleagues, so coming from Feinstein it seems like she’ll vote to acquit.
Obviously this news sent shockwaves through the Demosphere, so Feinstein tried to clarify or backtrack on this. First with a Statement:
After those remarks were published, Feinstein issued a statement saying she had been misunderstood.
“Before the trial I said I’d keep an open mind. Now that both sides made their cases, it’s clear the president’s actions were wrong. He withheld vital foreign assistance for personal political gain. That can’t be allowed to stand.”
Then with a tweet-storm:
“In this case we have a president who decided to ignore Congress by illegally withholding nearly $400 million of military aid – authorized and appropriated through bipartisan legislation and signed by him as president – all for his own, personal political benefit.”

“This wasn’t an isolated action. In October, President Trump asked China to investigate the Biden family. And the Mueller Report lays out a series of actions leading up the 2016 election where the Trump campaign solicited foreign interference.”

“The decision the Senate must make is whether we hear from John Bolton now – testimony that may well have a determining factor in senators’ consideration of their votes – or if we postpone learning what he has to say until his book comes out in March.” pic.twitter.com/vRwjvEBXeU

You may notice that in neither attempt does she actually deny that she’s leaning toward acquittal.
Just the fact that Feinstein said the American people should decide if Trump stays in office shows what her vote will be. I’m sure Feinstein will get an angry DM from Pelosi reminding her that the entire point of the impeachment was to not allow the American people to pick their President. The plan from the beginning was to undo 2016 and stop Trump’s guaranteed reelection in 2020.
The House vote to impeach was strictly partisan, with only democrats voting for, while the opposition against impeachment was bi-partisan. It looks like President Trump’s Senate trial acquittal will also be bi-partisan and it won’t be shocking if a few more democrats break with party unity on this.
