Liberals have seen nothing but opportunity with the coronavirus crisis, pushing their whacko leftist socialist agenda as well as using the pandemic as an excuse to suspend our right to keep and bear arms. Many liberal cities, counties, and states have mandated the closing of all gun stores, because who the heck who need protection during a national emergency? Thankfully President Trump has stepped in and told states they need to keep gun stores open as essential businesses in these chaotic times.
Fox News reports that the Department of Homeland Security has issued guidance to the states regarding the closing of gun stores:
An agency within the Department of Homeland Security has issued guidance telling states that they should allow gun retailers and shooting ranges to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic as a debate swirls about whether such businesses are “essential” and should be permitted to continue operating as governments urge people to stay home to avoid spreading the disease.
The guidance, which came from Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Director Christopher Krebs on Saturday, tells states that “[w]orkers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges” are part of the “essential critical infrastructure workforce.”
Damn right they are.
Naturally anti-gun extremists are crapping their pants at the prospect of Americans exercising their rights during this emergency. Here’s a bozo from the Brady Campaign arguing that we don’t actually have a right to keep and bear arms at all:
“While DHS’ guidance is advisory, it is ill-conceived and dangerous. State and local governments are well within their constitutional rights to broadly close businesses in order to prevent the spread and flatten the curve, and they are definitely not required to designate gun industry businesses as ‘essential’ and keep them open. There is no constitutional right to immediately buy or sell guns, and there is certainly no right to spread coronavirus while buying or selling guns,” said Brady campaign president Kris Brown.
So there is no Constitutional right to be able to buy or sell guns? But there is a right of the government to stop people from buying and selling guns?
I poured through the U.S. Constitution and found this thing called the 2nd Amendment which states quite plainly: the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The Brady campaign is definitely wrong about their first claim.
As for the second claim, I was unable to find an amendments granting the government the right to suspend the people’s rights. Maybe it’s there written in invisible ink, but I seriously didn’t see it.
The Brady Campaign of course recently warned that the coronavirus was going to lead to many children being shot and killed and recommended suspending gun ownership rights juts to be sure. It’s possible these antigun activists are full of shit on everything.
Out here at the Def-Con News world headquarters in Los Angeles County our local Sheriff has been trying to close down all of the guns stores. I’m not sure how that’s going but I know in the City Burbank, which is in LA county, the gun stores are currently open and have lines around the block.
Liberals are trying to define this latest attempt to destroy the 2nd Amendment as a temporary thing while we get over the coronavirus. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “A right delayed is a right denied.” If we allow the government to take our rights away, they will never give them back.
