Recently Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tennessee) was complaining about the stupidity of South Carolina voters and basically described them as being retarded. When confronted with the terribleness of his statement he amended it to say voters in SC are actually racist. This is apparently part of Joe Biden’s plans to “heal the nation” and to stop treating political opponents as the enemy.
In a interview with The Nashville Scene on Monday democrat Jim Cooper was asked about the $124 million that democrats poured into the effort to defeat Republican Senator Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, only to lose:
“I’ve said for years that they have extra chromosomes, South Carolina voters. Anybody who could re-elect Lindsey Graham after his two-faced performance on federal judges, they have a tolerance that I can’t imagine,” said Cooper.
Having an extra chromosome is a condition known as “trisomy” which is responsible for Down syndrome. This was Cooper’s not-so-clever way of saying voters in South Carolina voters are physically and mentally underdeveloped or retarded.
An interesting fun fact is that Cooper opposed the Americans with Disabilities Act, because he apparently really hates “retards.”
In Congress, Cooper aligned himself with the budget-deficit hawks in the Conservative Democratic Forum who pushed for tough spending cuts during the 1980s and again this year. He split with the liberals in his party, not just on labor issues, but in opposing the Americans With Disabilities Act, which he complained was “sloppily drawn.”
Because Cooper is a democrat he didn’t take much crap for this offensive statement but he did get some, so he issued a non-apology according to the Tennessean:
A spokesperson for U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper says the Nashville Democrat made a “poor analogy” when using a phrase offensive to members of the Down syndrome community during a recent interview.
It was offensive to the people of South Carolina, not the Down syndrome community. Also, is there a Down syndrome community? In any case, Cooper continued to insult the people of SC:
In response to a request for comment about Cooper’s remarks, his office said the congressman was referring to bigotry and racism among voters in the nearby Southern state.
“To be clear, he was referring to the legacy of bigots and racists, and a clearly high tolerance for hypocrisy in South Carolina. It was a poor analogy and he regrets it,” said Cooper’s press secretary Katie Feldhaus Jackson.
In addition to being an asshole, Cooper also thinks people are stupid, which also makes him an asshole. In Cooper’s original statement he is clearly questioning the intelligence of South Carolina voters for reelecting Lindsey Graham. To do this, he said they had an “extra chromosome” which is associated with Down syndrome. Now he’s claiming he meant that South Carolinians are racist, but there is no racist conditions based on having an extra chromosome.
It is further proven that Cooper was never talking about racism because the example he used regarding Lindsey Graham was that he was “two-faced” about his approach to confirming federal judges. There was no racism implied in his original statement.
Joe Biden says he’s going to unite the country by calling the 74 million people who voted for President Trump “ugly chumps.” Jim Cooper is doing his part by calling South Carolina voters “racist retards.” You can feel the love and unity is sure to follow.
And while we are here, doesn’t Cooper look like he might have a touch of Down syndrome?
There is a medical term called “flat facies” that is associated with Down syndrome. Tell me Jim Cooper doesn’t have that. Once again, democrats accuse other people of what they are guilty of.
