Wherever democrats are in charge, taxes are high, crime is high, the cost of living is high and the people are high for voting these idiots into office. This failure of democrat rule is evident in all the major cities run into the ground by the D’s but nowhere more than Portland and NYC, where a direct line can be drawn from crappy liberal policies to crappy real-world outcomes.
The democrat mayor of Portland and the democrat city council have allowed Antifa and Black Lives Matter to riot constantly for the past 7 months and as it turns out, there are some negative consequences for that. Fox News reports:
Some Portland-based businesses have reportedly been left with no choice but to find new insurance companies or pay significantly higher premiums following months of civil unrest, looting, and vandalism in parts of the Oregon city.
Insurance companies serving the Portland region have begun charging significantly higher premiums – and in at least one case asking to cough up four-times the amount that was previously being paid – after store-runners and owners were forced to file one claim, if not more, in connection with incidents of looting and destruction over the past several months…
And in some cases, insurance companies have opted not to offer policies at all to new customers in certain parts of Portland, nor to approve expanded coverage for its current holders…
“The civil unrest and riots that have occurred have put Portland on the map. We’re talking about insurance carriers that not only have a footprint here in Oregon, but nationally, and many are based outside of Oregon. So, they are seeing all of this heightened awareness of crime and damaged buildings over the news. That has made carriers more sensitive,” said Brown & Brown Northwest Insurance president Jessica Getman.
“When there is a company that is considering offering a brand new policy to a new business, there’s more scrutiny. They will certainly look at the news and the headlines. These are typical underwriting parameters. They’ll look at what’s the level of risk and do we want to share that risk?” WSC Insurance executive Barb Schimmel said.
If only someone in Portland had the foresight to understand that non-stop riots would drive business away. Now who are they going to tax to pay for justice reforms?
In NYC, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s justice reforms aren’t driving away business, just human lives. The NY Post reports:
Nearly 90 percent of suspects arrested on gun charges this year are back on the streets, which the NYPD says has fueled a historic spike in shootings that have left more than 1,756 dead or wounded.
About 3,345 of the 3,793 perps arrested between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30 for firearms crimes — 88 percent — were let go, according to department data. Just 450 remain in jail…
Some of the suspects posted bail, but judges were required to release others under new reform laws that prohibit them from setting monetary bail on some gun-possession cases. The crime became ineligible for bail in most circumstances under the Jan. 1 law changes, which mandate judges to release collared suspects, with no money down, on hundreds of charges considered “non-violent.”
The NYPD has repeatedly blamed this year’s stunning 96-percent surge in shootings on the loosened bail laws and early release of prisoners due to COVID concerns.
“We have made staggering numbers of gun arrests, taking guns off the streets from felons … but when you look, three days later, four days later, those individuals are back on the street committing more gun violence,” said NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea.
If only someone in NYC had the foresight to understand that releasing violent criminals onto the streets would lead to more violent crime.
Portland and NYC are complete disasters, but Los Angeles is telling them “hold my beer.” The new liberal LA district attorney has essentially decriminalized all crime and soon the City of Angels will literally live up to its name when criminals harvest the souls of the innocent in an orgy of violence.
Democrats have embraced socialism even though there is not one single example of socialism succeeding. Liberals in big cities have embraced democrats even though there is not one single example of democrat rule succeeding. I’m sensing a theme here.
