The prevailing narrative of the protest on Wednesday was that a gang of armed Trump supporters laid siege to the Capitol building, forcing their way in to riot and destroy. Upon further review it seems the Capitol Police opened the door and invited the Trump supporters in. Does that mean democrats don’t have to impeach President Trump or expel Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz from the Senate?
Here’s a video of the Trump supporters “forcing” their way into the Capitol:

With Trump supporters lined up outside, suddenly the doors open. They must have known the secret knock because presumably those doors are locked from the inside. You can see on the right, one kindly Capitol Police officer holding the door open for the Trump supporters.
Once inside the Trump supporters calmly walked down a hallway lined with other officers, who seem to be welcoming the crowd. The cop with the mask actually gives his approval of the Trump supporters entering the Capitol by telling them they are free to “disagree with it,” meaning the certification of the Electoral College votes. The cop at the end almost seems like he’s telling everybody to have a good time with a series of courtesy nods.
This looks more like a field trip that a violent siege. I hope the Trump “rioters” used the buddy system to make sure they didn’t lost, or shot.
But who are you going to believe, your lying eyes or democrats who insist this was a violent takeover of our democracy?
Today, domestic terrorists attacked a foundation of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power following free elections.
We must reestablish the rule of law and hold them accountable.
Democracy is fragile. Our leaders must live up to their responsibility to protect it.

Yes! We must investigate the security breach at the Capitol today. I warned our Caucus and had an hour long conversation with the Chief of Police 4days ago. He assured me the terrorists would not be allowed on the plaza & Capitol secured. What the hell?

Those who performed today’s reprehensible acts were rioters, insurrectionists, thugs, domestic terrorists
They don’t represent America
They were violent extremists who tried to take over the Capitol
They must be prosecuted to the full extent
But tonight Democracy will triumph
— Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) January 7, 2021
Today’s shameful assault on our democracy — anointed at the highest level of government — must not deter us from our responsibility to the Constitution. Tonight, we will move forward with the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s election.

I believe the Republican members of Congress who have incited this domestic terror attack through their attempts to overturn the election must face consequences. They have broken their sacred Oath of Office.
I will be introducing a resolution calling for their expulsion. pic.twitter.com/JMTlQ4IfnR

This wasn’t a siege, a riot, or a terrorist attack. Trump supporters didn’t storm the Capitol, the Capitol Police opened the doors and invited them in. And let’s face it, our democracy, which is really a Republic, is the same as it was a couple days ago.
The Capitol Police are U.S law enforcement agency under the direct authority of Congress, not the President. If democrats need for some heads to roll for the 2-hour field trip to the Capitol by Trump supporters, they should size up their necks for the guillotine because they are the ones that allowed Wednesday’s protest to happen.
