In a humiliating defeat for Democrats and their socialist agenda, the $15 minimum wage hike was torpedoed in the Senate on Friday, a severe blow to Bernie Sanders and AOC’s “Squad” as well as to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Democrats had initially hoped to include the obscene raise for uneducated fast-food workers and other undeserving members of society in the massive greasy pork sandwich $1.9 COVID “relief” bill that has little to do with the public health emergency and everything to do with giveaways to Dem-aligned special interests along with bailouts of blue states that have been mismanaged to the brink of bankruptcy by Dem governors.
Hopes of Dems and their activist base were dashed after Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough determined that the $15 minimum wage did not meet requirements to qualify for the reconciliation process that allows the controlling party to ramrod the package through without Republican support.
MacDonough was vilified by the Twitter hate mob and progs in Congress demanded that she be overruled by former vice president Joe Biden but the exclusion stood, leading Comrade Bernie to put forth an amendment to force the issue.
However, the braying communist crank was defeated when several Democrat senators joined Republicans in rejecting the amendment.
The Dems who broke ranks are:
Joe Manchin (D-WV), Jon Tester (D-MT), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Chris Coons (D-DE), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Angus King (I-ME).
Not that they are any less extreme than the rest of their party, they just understand that raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour would be an abject catastrophe for small businesses whose backs have already nearly been broken by Democrat lockdowns and onerous restrictions.
Needless to say, Bernie was not happy.

There is not one state in our country where you can make ends meet on the current federal minimum wage. Not one! How quickly would Congress raise the minimum wage if they were forced to live on $7.25 an hour? Outrageous.

Granted that $7.25 an hour is ridiculous and there should indeed be an increase in the minimum wage to a reasonable amount that splits the baby by boosting it but doubling the wage with zero regard to how it will adversely affect businesses is just more of the same idiotic pie in the sky type of thinking initially foisted off on gullible types by the likes of Lenin, Mao, and Fidel Castro.
Like “free” health care and other scams, it all sounds good until the day when political adversaries are rounded up and marched off to gulags or “reeducation” camps – IF they are lucky.
What Bernie, AOC, and the rest of the socialist travelers leave out is that while they sing the siren song of “racial justice” in demanding the $15 minimum wage, the ones who stand to be harmed even more than small businesses are unskilled black workers in fast food joints who will see their hours severely cut, be faced with inflation due to employers being forced to raise prices to offset the increased labor costs if not outright unemployment once workplaces are either closed or are forced to invest in automation.
Regardless of their defeat, don’t expect the fanatics to give up and Pelosi has already shown that she is more than willing to hold Americans hostage by refusing to budge on those mythical $1,400 checks if she doesn’t get her way.
