Study Says Black Lives Matter Protests Reduced Police Lethal Force But Increased Homicides

A new study is trying to blow sunshine up everyone’s ass by claiming that Black Lives Matter protests were successful in reducing the times police used lethal force. The big asterisk of this study is that BLM protests also increased the number of homicides. Less dead scumbags and more dead innocent people is hardly a triumph of the BLM movement, but we all know how the liberal media will cover this.

Vox, the dumb liberal website that explains the news to dumber liberals, reports this with glee:

There’s long been a fierce debate about the effect of Black Lives Matter protests on the lethal use of force by police. A new study, one of the first to make a rigorous academic attempt to answer that question, found that the protests have had a notable impact on police killings. For every 4,000 people who participated in a Black Lives Matter protest between 2014 and 2019, police killed one less person.

Travis Campbell, a PhD student in economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, released his preliminary findings on the Social Science Research network as a preprint, meaning the study has yet to receive a formal peer review.

From 2014 to 2019, Campbell tracked more than 1,600 BLM protests across the country, largely in bigger cities, with nearly 350,000 protesters. His main finding is a 15 to 20 percent reduction in lethal use of force by police officers — roughly 300 fewer police homicides — in census places that saw BLM protests.

Wow, BLM protests really do work in changing the racist system of cops defending their lives against armed criminal scumbags. But wait, there’s some more data in this study that’s worth mentioning:

Campbell’s research also indicates that these protests correlate with a 10 percent increase in murders in the areas that saw BLM protests. That means from 2014 to 2019, there were somewhere between 1,000 and 6,000 more homicides than would have been expected if places with protests were on the same trend as places that did not have protests.

WTF? So 300 less armed attackers died at the hand of police but 6,000 more innocent people were murdered? Even using liberal logic, that seems like a terrible trade-off.

Campbell’s study said that for every 400 people who participated in a BLM protest, police killed one less person. That means for every 400 people who participated in a BLM protest, 1,500 people were murdered. Or, for every scumbag cops should have killed but didn’t 1,500 innocent people died. Again, that is super-f*cked up.

As Vox noted, this study didn’t include the massive George Floyd race riots of 2020, so in all likelihood, there was a sharp increase in murders related to Black Lives Matter protests.

Despite the shocking numbers of this study, Vox declared BLM protests a roaring success in holding the police accountable for using lethal force on armed scumbags:

Protests can do a lot. They can raise awareness, create solidarity or undermine existing relationships, change public opinion, strengthen or weaken institutions, and affect the outcome of elections. But, according to this study, BLM protests also produce their intended effect.

If the intended effect of BLM was to make sure more people, black people, died, then this is a true statement. If the intended effect of BLM was to improve the lives and safety of black people, then it is a miserable failure.

This is a group called “Black Lives Matter” and the increase in homicides was almost exclusively black people killing other black people. Somebody should report BLM to the Better Business Bureau for having a deceptive name and business practices.
