Sen. Kennedy (R-LA): Failing Public Schools and Single Parent Households Are Causing the Upheaval Between Police and Certain Groups

Tuesday on FNC’s “Fox News Primetime,” Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) argued there was a deeper problem causing the upheaval between police and certain demographic groups within the United States. This from Breitbart.com.

Senator Kennedy stated that as long as children were sent to “failure factories,” referring to public schools, there was an increased likelihood of incidents, including what had happened in Brooklyn Center, MN.
“Let me give you two things we can do to reduce the crime rate among all demographic groups, but especially among African-American youths.
Number one, we’re sending too many of our young people to schools that are failure factories. Let me tell you — if I were king for a day, here’s what I would do: I would – I would turn to all of the parents of our kids below a certain socio-economic level of all races, and I’d say here’s the money that the state is putting up to pay for the school that you’re going to.”
“I’m giving you the money, not the schools, use it anywhere you want to,” Kennedy continued. “If you want to go to a charter school, go. If you want to go to a private school, here’s the money. We have to have more freedom of choice and more competition in education.
Number two, family formation, nobody wants to talk about it. I’m not saying a single parent can’t be a good mom or dad. But a child who grows up in a single-parent family is six times more likely to grow up in poverty than a child that grows up in a two-parent family. And that is just a fact. And we got to stop talking about it.”
America has been throwing money at public education to the tune of $12K-plus average per student per year and the results have been abysmal. But more money hasn’t improved public education. The leftist answer has been to spend money until the problem goes away.
Single parent households have been increasing dramatically since the LBJ administration. As of 2019, there were 15.76 million children living with their single mothers in the U.S. And, in the same year, 3.23 million children were living with their single fathers. Most single parent households earn significantly less than two parent households and being raised by married parents in a low-conflict household provides children with tremendous economic and emotional benefits.
What say you Def-Con News readers? Senator Kennedy has described two long-ignored glaring discrepancies that are each as obvious as the ears on the sides of our heads. Is it possible for both problems to be addressed nationally? Perhaps each could best be addressed at the state level. But would democrat-run states be less inclined to act upon Sen. Kennedy’s advice? After all, Republican-run states statistically outperform democrat-run states. As reported on investors.com most fiscally sound states in the nation are all low-tax, GOP strongholds, while the 10 least-solvent states are almost all high-tax and heavily democrat.
