The last time the U.S. had to cut and run from a war, Jane Fonda was all over our enemies but this time around she’s suddenly not in love with them. During the Vietnam War, Fonda partied with the North Vietnamese and even did a photo op on an anti-aircraft gun used to shoot down Americans. Now that the U.S. has pulled out of Afghanistan, Fonda is rallying against the Taliban instead of launching RPGs from the back of a camel as would be expected.
The Hill brings this surprising report:
Jane Fonda, “White Lotus” star Connie Britton and “Rent’s” Rosario Dawson are adding their names to a push for nations around the world to “refuse to recognize a Taliban government” in Afghanistan because of its treatment of girls and women.
Oh, now it makes sense. Fonda’s radical feminism slightly outweighs her radical America-hating. Also, the Viet Cong were communists, which Fonda loves, while the Taliban are not so they don’t get her support.
The performers are among those participating in an online day of action on Wednesday held by the One Billion Rising campaign, which calls on supporters to “rise for and with the women of Afghanistan” via social media posts.
Ooh, social media posts, huh? That should put the Taliban in their place. Is there anything lazier than on-line activism? This is a literal example of phoning it in.
In reality, this has very little to do with the Taliban and is mostly about hating America:
Signees of the organizational effort — which also include actors Emma Thompson and Glenn Close and singer Annie Lennox, among others — also say that they support ending “imperialism, militarism, fascism and religious fundamentalism.”
All of these liberal Hollywood douchebags are complaining about the fate of women in Afghanistan despite having actively campaigned to put Joe Biden in the White House. If they have a gripe, it should be against themselves because no way in hell would the Taliban be in charge if Donald Trump was still the President of the United States. Rich celebrity elites own the rape and murder of Afghan women and children under Taliban rule as much as Biden does.
The campaign expresses support for cutting the Pentagon’s budget, and calls for “women and men, human rights defenders, journalists, police officers, public employees, athletes, and LGBTI+ who wish to leave the country” to be “ensured safe passage” out of Afghanistan.
Cutting the Pentagon’s budget does about as much good to fix Biden’s mess in Afghanistan as his botched pull-out did. That is to say, it’s not helpful at all.
Despite everything, it’s still quite surprising that Jane Fonda doesn’t support the Taliban. Sure, they brutalize women and children but so did the Viet Cong and they were her BFFs. The VC tortured, raped, and murder women and children. They cut babies out of mothers’ wombs. They tossed infants in the air and caught them on bayonets. How is the Taliban any different?
I think if someone explains to Fonda how much the Taliban truly hates the United States, she might change her mind and realize she has a real kinship with the savage terrorists.
